N95 with tomtom 6

tomtom 6 on a 2gb memory card inside a nokia N95. i've been informed it will load and work fine (can someone confirm this)

i'm just after a little info on how this would work. the builtin sat nav on the n95 needs an internet connection to work which is costly and it has no voice guidence unless paid for (squeeze as much money from us as possiblr why dont you)

if i use this tomtom card do i still need to connect to the internet? will it cost me a fortune to have someone direct me to the nearest mcdonalds? or does it just use the internal gps reciever and tomtom maps without needing an internet connection ie free

any help or advice would be great

Re: N95 with tomtom 6

the built in satnav on the n95 does not need an internet connection to work, just copy the map onto your memory card and then you can select the option to turn off internet access.

Re: N95 with tomtom 6

I've just spent the last few hours researching into the various phones that will take TomTom .I have a PDA but was considering getting a phone that will do everything . Phones like the Sony Ericsson W950i with touch screen & Nokia N95 , but there such a price to buy even on those auction sites . A little info on the N95 has made me change my mind though :

Next up is the built-in GPS device insuring that you won't get lost. For this to work you have to have the phone open (i.e., slider out to reveal the keypad) because the GPS receiver has been tucked in underneath. Compared to TomTom or Navman the software isn't the easiest thing to use and requires you at times to pull data from either a wireless connection or 3G/HSDPA.
Rather than supplying all the map data from the beginning the Nokia N95 downloads maps on the fly automatically saving them to the phones memory or an inserted memory card. The map downloads are free, but depending on how you download the data will cost you for the transfer from your service provider.
It looks like I'll just keep my Navman and C500 , they both do a good job as individuals and the Navman costs nowt to run .

Re: N95 with tomtom 6

CoPilot do a version for the N95 - so no need to download the info from Nokia

Works with the inbuilt GPS receiver - just insert the memory card and it installs/works without any problems

Re: N95 with tomtom 6

My friend has TomTom on his N95 and it works fine. The internal GPS reciever though is junk,to jumpy, alright on foot though. He bought an external GPS receiver to work with Tomtom.
Downloaded the latest version for free+maps of the UK&major roads of Europe

Re: N95 with tomtom 6

We managed to install the software on the N95, and to be honest, you are better off with an N73(or N70), and external GPS reciever.
