AV 504 won't output video to an external source

Every DVD I have copied to my Archos 504 won't let me play on an external screen. I can't believe all DVDs have protected content on them. However what is strange is when my sister copys the same DVDs to her Archos 404, they do play on TV. So is this because its old and doesn't have the new software on it. But surely the block is from the DVD?

Does anyone have a software which can unblock this problem or know a way of getting round this problem.

I don't want to have to record everything on my sister 404 and transfer to mine.

Please help x

Re: AV 504 won't output video to an external source

It may depend which DVD player you have copied them from, if the DVD player sends the protection signal then the Archos blocks it from playing on an external screen. You can get round this by encoding the DVD to MPEG4 (e.g. DivX) on a PC using one of the many programs and this ignores the protection! I use Pocket DVD studio but there are lots of different programs out there.

The 504 and 404 are the same age and as far as I'm aware use the same copy protection, but somebody may correct me on this.

Coupla things you can try - ImToo DVD Ripper works well on the PC and has specific settings for various Archos machines, as well as IPods, PSPs etc. Works out about £22.50 to buy, though you can download the free trial version to try before you buy. Just do a search for ImToo as links get blocked on here.

Alternatively, there are scart leads that circumvent this problem that you can buy, to record directly from your dvd player to the archos via the Archos's DVR station. We're not allowed to discuss such things on here, but again, a quick online search should locate what you need.

Re: AV 504 won't output video to an external source

right lets start shall we....

1: have you pressed the ikal button on top to activate the arc to tv mode...
2: have you checked the settings under video output eg, component, or composit etc etc
3: does the player play it on the screen with sound, if you get no warnings, or promps and can play it then you can output, i would like to know how you are trying to get video from the arc any way, is it 3.5mm jack to composit, or 3.5mm jack to scart, or the dock..... if you dont have the dock, get the official cable from achos.com, works a treat

settings settings settings, it took me about an hour or so to get video out of mine, because i was using a component cable with dock, and the thing was set on composit

also if it plays with sound on the arc, you have allready broken copyright on the disc to get it to your arc, so it wont stop you from putting it to your tv...

unless the fuzz beat down the door an take it from you because you breached copyright

good tie
