300 - Still set for 31 July?
Is the 300 HD DVD still set for release on the 31 July? It's not available for pre-order yet at Amazon which, given it's only really a month away, is surprising.

HD DVD for me as it's a combi as it gives me the option of watching it on my laptop or other DVD players - looking at the specs of each though there looks little difference between the two high def versions.

Re: 300 - Still set for 31 July?
Might be wrong but im pretty sure the HD DVD version has pip stuff and the blu-ray doesn't. Although im not mad into pip features ill get the HD DVD as its the more complete version.

You're correct - I remember reading it now - the HD DVD will have PiP and a interactive game included as the extras whereas the BluRay won't. All in all then the HD DVD looks like the better package.

Re: 300 - Still set for 31 July?
Someone here told me the Blu-ray also had PCM as well as TrueHd, but when I looked there was nothing on this but the disc does appear to be a BD50 so would have the space.

over on aicn they were going on about the pip for this as one of the best yet, you can watch the whole film without the cgi apparently, i think this feature may be an hd-dvd exclusive but cannot confirm.
HD-DVD for me.

It is indeed a HD-DVD exclusive. There is also an extra interactive game, apart from that, all special features are the same.

Re: 300 - Still set for 31 July?
I think the HD DVD version of this release just became the 'must have' release - checkout this article over on HighDefDigest. 300 will sport a "Blue-Screen Picture-in-Picture" feature - on short a pre-CGI-enhanced version to the finished film, allowing viewers to compare the entire movie in both rough and completed forms. Whilst I am not an extras fan this does sound quite interesting.

OK, I know the release date is still 31st July but what's the earliest we could expect delivery from MTM?

Blu-ray for me, ordered today from Movietyme.
Tough one but on balance I can live without the interactive features on the HD-DVD and pay a couple of pounds less for the disc. My Sony BDP-S300 will do 1080p/24, my HD-E1 doesn't, so that gives an advantage to blu-ray in my setup.
I believe both discs have a TrueHD soundtrack but unfortunately the S300 won't decode TrueHD at this point in time. However, the blu-ray also has a PCM soundtrack, albeit at a lower bit-depth than the TrueHD.

It does not have a PCM mix, where did you hear that?
