Cannot get usual channels on Freeview ... HELP

Hi
Just got a new philips IDTV (DW 6557)

Problem:
With digital tuner I am not getting the usual analogue channels , thats BBC, ITV, Chan4/5

Getting Sky sport news, Sky news, Hits, Kerang, UK History

I have done the post code check and it says I should have no problem getting freeview and I would not need an aerial upgrade...

Please help

Firstly, let me say I have no technical knowledge at all. However, I installed a new IDTV a month ago and managed to tune in to all channels, a week later channel 5, channel 4 and 2 other channels had gone.

After reading an article (forget where) I ensured that the aerial cable to the TV was clean, ie hadn't been re-routed to other TV's etc, the channels came back.

This left the question as to why had I lost the channesl in the first place, after further research on the web it transpired that the digital signal is one fussy bugger, unlike an analogue picture that just gets progressively worse as reception weakens, the digital picture can just fall over a cliff and it's gone as reception weakens.

There is a great thread on here some where that will explain all, hope it helps,

Wayne

I was wondering if it has a onboard signal strength indicator of any kind?
It might tell you how good your digi signal is.

Assuming it runs the same firmwareas a set top box you should be enter the menu, press 7 (I think) for technical update then select the signal strength

Hence missing channels.

I would try checking your incomming aerial leads/connections ect. You might need a new better quality aerial if the one you're using is old.

If all else fails try and get an experienced aerial installer to fix it. Hope you don't get a cowboy though.

Is your analogue picture fuzzy or not?

Hi
Basically I think I am not getting BBC digital channels and a few more othres because of a weak signal

Do you think adding a booster would help??? to receive DIGITAL Channels???

Regards

I think a signal booster is worth trying. I'm using a booster with my FTA Pace digi box. Without the booster the reception is poor and I get the same missing channels problem.
I need a high gain aerial though, and my location is not classified as being in a digi signal area.

I will get a better aerial one day soon. (More money).

I would get one from Argos simply because if it's not suitable then you can get your money back.

I would guess a single set amp might be your best bet.

Hi

I got a lab gear booster

it improves the analogue signal very very slightly

Unfortunately no more digital channels cpould be found by the digital tuner

I think I will have to have somebody look at the aerial

or Change home !!!!!!
