Whatever Happened To Fox & MGM?

Have these two studios lost faith in the high def market? Having returned from an extended period abroad I was hoping/expecting to see a whole raft of (for me) 'must have' titles such as:
- Battle Of Britain - MGM - was due May 07
- Bridge To Far - MGM - was due May 07
- Commando - FOX
- Dances with Wolves - MGM
- Master & Commander - FOX - was due May 07
- The Thomas Crown Affair - MGM - was due March 07

Even BV seems to have gone off the boil: why the delay to Crimson Tide, The Rock and Con Air? I guess the new hardware hasn't made the impact the studios were hoping for. Nevertheless it's pretty disappointing to come back from three months away and not find a single BD exclusive title worth buying

Re: Whatever Happened To Fox & MGM?

The reason I don't buy any Fox titles, is because they are by far the most expensive, they need to up their game, if they want to have more of an impact.

Re: Whatever Happened To Fox & MGM?

I think once Fox commit and start releasiing films like Alien, The Abyss and a few others I'll buy a Blu-ray player. Until then there's not a chance of me buying one.

Nice to see you back Rasczak btw.

Re: Whatever Happened To Fox & MGM?

I'm pretty sure it had something with the copy protection. Just after it got cracked, Fox disappeared. There's new blu-ray copy protection coming soon, and already rumoured MGM titles (like a Sergio Leone boxset) however these have now been denied by the studio.

I think it is only a matter of time until Fox get their act together. I remember in the first days of standard dvd, non anamorphic films with the trailer as their only extra. Along came fight club, and soon they are started doing some great 2 discs set. I'm hoping this time away from blu-ray has given them a chance to look at what they're doing wrong, and come up with a release list running up to xmas period, that not only has killer films, but also has the discs to back them up. Oh and get rid of the region locking!

Fox are regional coding everything they release (or everything they did release when they were supporting the format) ergo the discs will not work on your UK PS3

Still according to a few diehards on this discussion thread regional coding really doesn't matter

When AACS got cracked Fox pulled most of it's title's and now waits on BD+. As far as I know BD+ is now operational on players but maybe Fox need to wait for the massses to update their player FW before releasing titles. Or maybe they decided to wait for Profile 1.1 Oct 31st.

Anyhow I doubt they have lost faith in the format or why else would they have so many titles in the pipeline?

I'm pretty sure we'll see Fox titles before Christmas.

With respect though I would prefer definitive release plans as opposed to vague promises from unconnected third parties. Disney has very little of interest to me and Sony's catalogue isn't filled with 'must haves' either. Ergo Fox was the deal-breaker in me buying into BluRay. They made a good start - albeit just re-releasing DVHS titles onto BD - but then it just went silent.

Totally unacceptable IMHO

Re: Whatever Happened To Fox & MGM?

Fox is certainly the key Blu-ray studio for me to go with Universal, Paramount and Warners. Their lack of releases is disappointing and unfortunately much of their output I have already on DVHS.
