Unhappy Big trouble with the wife - how can i hide my screen???

Got an ear bashing from the other half today - just purchased the sharp xv-z3000 and she's not happy with the thought of having a projector screen attached to the ceiling of our relatively new house (which due to room layout is the only way I can do it - as on the same wall is my wall mounted lcd).

I've seen a few electric projector screens on ebay and am wondering if I could cut into the ceiling and create a space for the screen to sit flush against the ceiling...and then when I press the button the screen "appears" out of the ceiling if you catch my drift

Has anyone tried this - I think my screen will run parallel to the ceiling joists...any advice welcome on how to do this and keep it very neat and tidy

Some kind of cover to go around the ceiling where I've cut it to give it a nice finish would be ideal

Re: Big trouble with the wife - how can i hide my screen???

Hi,

I have done exactly this, and it has worked great.

I just brought an electric screen of ebay, cut a rectangle large enough for the actual screen fabric to fit through with space on either side.

Screw the screen to the wooden joist (this was easy for me as i just went into the loft and screwed it from up there.

To make it neat i just used a bit of thin wooden sheat , cut it into a rectangle and then cut a nice neat smaller rectangle in it for the projector screen to go through.

I probably could make this sound much simpler but im not very good at explaining some things .

Thanks ,

It dident take very long at all to do the screen, probably few hours.

Is the room you want it in an upstars or downstairs room?

If its upstairs, it makes the job much easier, as you can cut the slot in the ceiling exactly where you want it (making sure its the correct distance away from the joist to which you will be screwing the unit., and then just pop into the loft and screw the screen to the joists from there.

If its ground floor you will have to cut a much bigger hole to fit the whole unit through the plasterboard and screw it to the joists. Which would then mean glueing a much larger strip of wood to cover the messy hole you just made .

Which screen are you using?

I am looking for excactly the same but I am afraid of wobbling screens if I do not use a tab tension. Any experiences?

Re: Big trouble with the wife - how can i hide my screen???

Hi
I know this might not be exactly what you are thinking of but, I purchased a NuVu "pop up" screen a couple of months ago, and I am happy with the results.

see How have u hidden yours (screen that is...)

The screen is under constant tension from a steel rim & it folds down into an 80cm Circle.

The only thing is you will have to take it down and fold it away when not in use.
It takes only a couple of mins. to unfold and set up.

Hope this might be of help to you

Kevin
