Feeling Stupid - Region Locks

I have brought a number of hddvd's from movietyme without problem and so i thought i would buy a few bluray titles.

Not thinking it through i forgot bluray are region locked and so i now have a few bluray discs on way that i can't use (will be giving them away on this forum when they arrive i guess).

HDDVD has its work cut out at the minute (ps3, blockbusters, etc) but this seems to be a huge plus for the format.

Please don't full into the same trap as me.

Re: Feeling Stupid - Region Locks

Unfortunately Americans don't seem to care about region locking and they're the one's who are deciding the format war.

There's so many negatives about having two formats but one positive should have been that Blu-ray were forced to use ABC on all titles to compete with HD DVD. But that hasn't happened and once the format becomes more mainstream around the World, I can imagine region locking will probably be enforced even more.

Re: Feeling Stupid - Region Locks

To be fair, it doesn't hit me very often.

Many Blu-ray discs are region free, and those that aren't are often available in the UK.

But I must admit that, when it does happen, it's very frustrating.

Re: Feeling Stupid - Region Locks

It has been a long time since i have wanted to import a movie, because over the last couple of years dvd's have normally had pretty much a worldwide launch.

However when i first got into dvd's i used to import loads because very often you could buy the dvd from the states whilst the film was still in the cinema here in the UK.

Ok not as bad as then but the US releases of hd content far exceeds the UK line up.

Oh well, just need to be more careful in the future.

Re: Feeling Stupid - Region Locks

Ditto.

Also it used to be that a lot more was available in the US, too.

The advent of high def appears to have thrown us back in a time warp - I have far more imported discs than UK ones.

I've got to be honest, checking lists online to see if an imported BD will play in the UK just feels...well, odd.

Re: Feeling Stupid - Region Locks

Movietyme delievery times are amazing!!!

Anyway got matrix ultimate edition which obviously works fine and looks stunning.

Of the bluray titles i was 50% luckly. Blood diamonds works, ghost rider doesn't. A lot better than i was expecting. Also luckly the other 2 bluray titles i ordered are pre-release and so i have managed to cancel the order.
