cheap against dear on basic freeview boxes

when you walk into lets say ASDA and you a range of Free view boxes. There is an om or some make for very silly money less than 20 pounds there are others by very well known and not so well known for a lot more serious money.

what the drawbacks in buying A very cheap one and a more expensive one apart from you get two scart sockets and top up card slots.

I understand a freeview box has a processor and turns lots of numbers it receives into a picture is that right?

so dose a dearer Freeview box have a more expensive processor. We have two cheap ones in house. notice constantly the processor cant keep up with the signal as it just like a jigsaw puzzle on some channels freezing and falling apart. Is this basically the down side of buying cheap boxes? or just a freeview phenomenon

There is a difference between the two as I have found over the years, the expensive ones last longer and respond better to the remote, it is in most cases to more you pay the better the box. As for your jigsaw picture problems that is VERY easy to fix, get a good aerial connected up with a multi output mast head amp it is as simple as that, if you have one then I would get someone back to check things out.

The symptom you describe (I'd call it freezing and blocking) isn't to do with the "processor". As Andy says, that's the result of bad reception - which in turn is typically the result of a bad signal, which usually means you need to revise your aerial and/or aerial cabling setup.

That's not to say that some tuners aren't more sensitive than others; they are. But given a good signal, pretty well any Freeview box will produce glitch-free results.
