BT home hub ethernet to usb probs

Hey fokes, wondering if anyone has this problem and if anyone knows how to fix it.

I have my computers set up via my home hub like so:
Xbox via ethernet
Fileserver via ethernet
desktop pc via USB

As some of you may know the home hub only has 2 ethernet ports.
Now my problem is when i wish to transfer a large file from my server to my desktop pc (ethernet to usb) the home hub resets itself after a few mins of transfer!

Anyone know a fix or having teh same probs?

Re: BT home hub ethernet to usb probs

Can I suggest you buy yourself a switch, connect one Hub ether port to the switch and then plug in the PC, XBOX and fileserver into the switch, as this the correct way to do things.
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/35437 which is a 5 port switch and will leave 1 port spare

Re: BT home hub ethernet to usb probs

hey andy, cheers for the reply.

I have plenty of switches hubs and routers i could use in adition to the home hub. its just a case of why should i have to plug in additonal equipment.

My first question still stands , is anyone else having this prob or know a fix (other than that already suggest)?

Re: BT home hub ethernet to usb probs

My brother had the same sort of issue on his router with USB and 1 ethernet connection, once the USB connection was in use the ethernet one was useless, or was it the other way round. Anyway if you have switches available try one and see.
I think it has something to do with the USB connection being in use that disables or limits the ethernet port and the router tries to act as a modem only?
