Sony NV-U92TW

Hi All,

Thinking about buying this unit. Does anybody know if it has bluetooth hands free calling functions? I have read a few reviews on the internet which dispute each other. Any opinons on this and anything else about the unit. I think the design is cool.

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

No Bluetooth according to Sonys web site.

http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProdu...nal+navigation

So seems too expensive for what it is.

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

Well I had my Nav-51 for 2 days and it really wet my appetite so I returned it to Argos and have ordered one of these NVU92TW.EUR
Ordered direct from Sony online as they have a 14day money back garentee
I loved the NAV-51 the voice was clear and perfect and it was very accurate, but learnt that map updates were not really practical and it did struggle slightly when 2 roundabouts are very close to each other, im hoping this new model will be perfect.
Im not looking for bluetooth or picture viewer etc, and now anticipate travelling much more with the family as my wife is a terrible map reader!
I will let you know how I get on, it has been despatched next day delivery

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

Why speed £300 on the Sony without Bluetooth when you can get the Garmin 660 with an almost identical spec. but with the addition of Bluetooth handsfree for the same price?

Software and mapping updates are quite regular with Garmin but I am not sure you can count on Sony to be as forthcoming especially in a few years time when they decide it is not worth being in the GPS market!

At the moment I would only stick with Garmin or TomTom unless you get a cracking offer on another make.

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

I kind of went on the presumption that for the same price with less features equals a better model with the name Sony behind it.
I have 14 days to make up my mind and test it and as I said I have no need for blutooth or mp3 etc..
The NAV51 for me was great with a lovely non irritating voice and speech kept to a minimum (plus I love SOny products!)

Hi ianonline,

Have you received the nv-u92t yet? If so is it any good? First opinions?

The reason I ask is that I am like you, I love sony gear and want a new sat nav. Toying between this and a tomtom. But if the nv-u92t is any good my decision is made .

Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up Re: Sony NV-U92TW

Yes I received it yesterday it is of a superb quality as you would expect from Sony. I registered it online and downloaded the traffic (£20), speed cameras and traffic light warnings! (free)
The speed cameras and some roadworks 17miles away on my route were all picked up without the TMC ariel attached
The spoken voice is a lovely well spoken lady (same as the N51)
Navigation is perfect and quick as you would expect when its detecting up to 8 satellites
Screen is awesome ALL functions are touch screen
In the build and navigation side I cannot fault it (even picked up 2 speed traps today well in advance)
My critisisms are:
No audible warning on speed traps just a small icon on the screen, the option of a short bleep would be nice
The car cradle only suckers onto the dashboard (albeit very well) no windscreen mount option
If all you are looking for is a very well built sat nav without all the thrills of bluetooth, mp3 etc with a fast cradle connect/disconnect and a decent case to store it in then this is for you I love it

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

Thanks ianonline.

My mind is made up now.

Can you just confirm though that there is no bluetooth. Some sites say yes, some say no.

Thanks again. I'll be ordering soon.

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

mate the suction cup spins round. you CAN mount it on the screen or the dash. I too must say how amazing it is. still find it hard to get over how clear the screen is and its huge.

Really very impressed with it overall. Annoyances include:

can't set UK as default, must tell it what country you want every time.

not accurate to house numbers, my house doesn't exist on their software

traffic updates really only good for motorways

software doesn't work with vista. (had to revert to the bios and tell it to boot form a backup of XP i did a few weeks ago. lucky i only just changed to vista)

no ac charger as standard, had to sit in the car for 15 minutes to give itenough charge to sync it to pc for camera updates.

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

Oh yes the sucker does spin round
I have found house numbers so far to be spot on
Yes the country default to GB would be nice but hey its only seconds we are talking to scroll down
I saw it on Play for that price, but opted for Sony direct as they had a 14day money back warranty and Play were out of stock and I needed it in a few days. I have been very happy with it so far and has served me perfect to a pinpoint on every location I have entered.
My son loves it sitting in the back he can see it and I dont get the "are we nearly there yet" as he can see the miles and time go down.
My wife who said it was a waste of money initially used it today to go her cousins new house in the sticks and has come home raving about it in awe at its accuracy. Maybe all sat navs are like this I dont know, but im very pleased with my Sony

Ian, you can activate audio warnings of speed traps by the following method:

Form the main screen, select More... > Settings > General Settings > Scroll down to the 7th page and the top selection is "Advanced Warnings" if you select this and highlight the three speed traps, then you shall have the woman say "Beware, Watch your speed" before every camera.

To all others out there I can confirm that there is no Bluetooth on the unit, however, the unit is sooooo sexy it makes up for it. The TMC has saved my butt alot over the pass couple of days as people keep crashing on the M6!!

Hope this helps people out.

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

Hi all,

I received my unit early this week and all I can say is that I'm loving it.

To all those who have activated the TMC how did you do this?

I have registered with the Nav-U website and purchased the TMC. When I go to the checkout and agree to the terms & conditions I get sent straight back to 'my basket' with an message saying 'an error occured starting the payment process'. I have asked contacted sony but I am still waiting for a reply.

Anybody out there who can help?

Thanks in advance

Gary

Re: Sony NV-U92TW

Hi all

Got mine yesterday, l had the NV-U50 before & was very pleased so upgraded as l am going to France & Italy this weekend.

Used it for a 200 mile round trip and loved it, far better than the older model.

Switched it on this morning to add the destinations for the holiday and the safety cams. Just my luck, it just sits on the loading page. Tried the reset, left it off for a while then switched it on, charged it (although fully charged) and nothing - it just sits there!

Sony are not much help when you call them - "have you tried resetting the unit yet?".

Anyone else had a similar problem? No time to exchange now so will either have to pay out £90 for the european maps for my old one or buy another!

Thanks
