Re: Remembering the British
God damn it! My plan was to do a war memorial shot
That will teach me to get my act together quicker
Up to your usual standard , I really like it.
Something like this is taken for granted I think, lots of people died so that we can live the way we do today. It will obviously mean a lot more to some.

Re: Remembering the British
The lone person looking up to the monument does it for me...
Very thoughtful, and a beautiful picture.

Re: Remembering the British
I like this too.
What a beautiful place to put a war memorial.
Love the way you have captured that one person paying their respect...very touching and peaceful.
I must admit the photo did make me think of all the war hero's that died fighting for our country.
This photo says 'BRITISHINESS' to me.
Nice one Liquid101....as usual

Re: Remembering the British
Good pic, nice sky, clean composition, doesn't say "British" to me though I'm afraid.

Re: Remembering the British
Wonderful sunset with a very a very detailed sky and the composition is pefect, but the problem with shooting into the setting sun is that you lose foreground detail (the war memorial does also look a tad on the noisy side). I'd have to be honest and say that this really does not shout British to me, as it could of been taken anywhere.

Re: Remembering the British
Nicely exposed and the lone figure does add loads to the shot. I would have maybe corrected the barrel distortion as the memorial appears to bend a bit after the first knuckle.
I am with Tobers in that it doesn't scream 'britishness' at me though. I think it's a difficult thing to capture/portray in all honesty.

Re: Remembering the British
Thanks for the comments.
I thought it was a difficult subject this month, very tricky to convey 'britishness' with a single photograph witout ramming something obvious down your throat.
I went out last night to make this photograph purely becuase I thought it would make a nice image; the 'Britishness' of it was always going to have to be up to the viewer to interpret for themselves.
The lone figure was a bit of luck. He was wandering around looking up at the statue on top (Britania?), and I had to wait ages for him to get to a point where he stood out against a clear background. I thought this helped put the photograph into context, reminding the figure of who and what he is, and what others have been through to allow him to take a gentle stroll along the seafront on a June evening.

I actaully didn't notice the person! Now I see him, it adds to the picture. This is in my top 3! Mind you, your pictures normally are!

Re: Remembering the British
I always try to find some humorous remark about photos, if i can.
But not this time Liquid, thers a lot of very brave peoples names on that memorial who made it possible for us to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today,
Bless the lot of them.
I always enjoy your photos as you seem to have mastered exposure brilliantly
i dont care if does or does not scream british, i just like it anyway

That's a very touching and moving sentence Liquid.
I love the picture. You've obviously put quite a bit of thought into taking this and I don't just mean from a technical point. The lone figure and the sun shining between the clouds add so much to the photo. Maybe it doesn't scream Britishness but I'm glad you've posted it all the same
