Blu ray discs on SD DVD players

Are Bluray discs able to be played on SD DVD players in SD quality or are they only viewable on Bluray / PS3 machines. Any advice welcome.

Bluray / PS3 machines only afaik, unless of course they are combo disks with HD on one side and SD on the other, these are common with HD DVD disks not sure about BR

Thanks. I do have a PS3 but than any discs I do buy I wont be able to play them anywhere else ie on another machine in the house or car etc.

Blu-ray disks will only play in a Blu-ray player. This is the same for HD DVD as well (unless it's a HD DVD combo disk).
