Just apply at connect.microsoft.com, it's open to the public now. As soon as you apply you are accepted.

Installed and running. Nice

Doesn't need a lot of spec either. I'm running on an old Compaq EVO D500 (low power usage so can stay on 24x7)
with P4 1.7Ghz cpu and 512Mb Ram and 2x 200Gb Disks.

OS is obviously based heavily on W2003 Server with a nice user friendly GUI driven front end.

Install is a bit lenghty though.

Router fort forwarding auto configuration is a nice touch!

Yeah the installation is terrible, its bits and pieces of vista, xp and 2k3 spliced together. Lost count how many times it rebooted.

Downloading.......will have a play this weekend. Wonder what it'll run like on a P3 600mhz, 512mb RAM, RAID 1.

Make sure you burn the ISO at a nice low speed. As with all MS ISO's they don't appear to like being burned at high speed.

What you on about? I burnt all my Microsoft ISOs at full speeds, never had one problem. Ironically, the only time I did have a probably is when I forced it to burn at a lower speed.

This looks like this could suit me quite well. Just wondering if I would have any problems installing the following:

Photoshop CS2
Dreamweaver MX 2K4
Office 2003

I use my "server" (check sig) for the odd bit of dev work so it would be nice if I could continue to do so. In addition does WHS come with any sort of IIS?

If it doesnt have IIS, it looks like I'll be using Server 2k3 for a while until I can sort out a new machine to do development.

At least M$ have rolled out a product like this I've needed something similar for about 2 years now.

I don't really get WHS to be honest...... what exactly is it supposed to do, other than include a few toys that we've already got installed as extras on our XP machines?


Have I missed something fundamental with it??

Yeah, i read that in the MS bunff. It seems that we need to be burning at lowest speed before MS accept any installation issues.

Not really what it is designed for to be honest. forget about using it like current Enterprise Windows Server OS's.

It really appears to be designed as a central hub on your home network for storage and sharing of Digital media, a central backup point and an easy solution for access to your data remotely.
