DVD+-RW Drives with S/PDIF

Hi,

Does anyone what DVD+-RW drives come with the 2-pin digital audio connector (S/PDIF).

I have googled and googled to no avail!

Thanks/...

Re: DVD+-RW Drives with S/PDIF

Digital audio now is passed through the data bus. Why do you need digital audio out on the drive itself?

Re: DVD+-RW Drives with S/PDIF

If your M/Board has SPDIF out you do not need SPDIF on your DVD drive, you just change your sound setteings to SPDIF pass through, use something like Power DVD a version that allows this and you have 5.1 at the output.

Re: DVD+-RW Drives with S/PDIF

I need it on the drive itself as my motherboard (Intel DP965LT) does not have S/PDIF or Coaxial digital output, so can't get 5.1.

Alternatively I could get a dedicated PCI sound card with optical/coaxial out, but am waiting for Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD cards to arrive (haven't looked in a while though).

Re: DVD+-RW Drives with S/PDIF

The s/pdif output on all DVD-ROMs will not output the 5/6.1 stream off a DD or DTS soundtrack anyway, this is seperated out from the DVD stream by your DVD player software, so you'll need a seperate soundcard anyway!

You can pick up a cheap PCI soundcard for like £15 these days with the necessary output. Try somewhere like ebuyer.com

So what is the point in the digital output then?

Re: DVD+-RW Drives with S/PDIF

So if I connect this 2-pin digital output directly on to the 2-pin digtial input on my HDMI graphics card, the 5/6/7 channel audio won't be sent to my A/V Receiver over the HDMI cable?
