Enigma Amp - Anybody remember who made them ?
Hi there.
I'am trying to hunt down a amp my farther once owned which was called "Enigma", it was a two slice amp with both stacked on top of one another with them both having a black glass front. The amp was made way back in the late 70's from a specialist shop where it was manufactured in Brighton, UK. Acording to my father they also made another amp called "Albarry". He wishes he had never of sold it back in the early 90's and is on the hunt for one again, I must admit I remember him having it and it sounded brilliant with his old Kefs. Hes not very optimistic in finding one, so I thought I'd just ask do any of you lot remember it or have heard of it before.
Many thanks

Re: Enigma Amp - Anybody remember who made them ?
I did some quick research on the internet and here is what I got:
There was a company called Albarry in the UK. They built this type of mono blocks
The review is in Italian but the pictures are quite expressive.

The company does not exist anymore, therefore second hand would be your only option. Maybe on eBay or some other platforms?
Good luck

They were Hifi Monoblocks meaning one complete amp in one case as today in some high-high-end equipment (e.g. together with a CD drive and an external decoding unit in seperate case forming a CD player together)
Of course with a few pre-amps with the same concept you can sum up 5 or 7 monoblocks to a 'decent' receiver

Re: Enigma Amp - Anybody remember who made them ?
Hi Dudes
Thanks for taking the time to look into it for me. I've just found out though from my father that it was Alan and Barry themselves (Albarry) that sold him the "Enigma" amp. As far as my father knows the company was actually called "Enigma". I'll see if I can dig out a old photo and show you, my father thinks it would of been worth abit now. Even though it was made in the late 70's it looks very sleek with its black glass fronts. And like I mentioned before had a excellent rich sound.
It's a Hifi Stereo amp in two slices one had the knobs on it and the other had nothing but a small lit up Enigma logo.

Hi Spedhent,
This news is probably a bit acedemic at this stage but here it for what its worth.
I remember these amps well, the company was called Albarry electronics and they made about 6 or 7 models.
I was a fan of their bipolar amps at the time. if my memory serves me , a couple of PP1 integrated amps, an ap4 / ap3 preamps , 2 stereo power amps , and 2 models of monoblocks m408 and a bigger series m1008.
The reason it comes flooding back I found some old paperwork on my ones while doing an attic clearout.
