Step up/down rings for HC20

Hi

I have used a sony pdxr10 3ccd cam for a few years now and as per a previous post have just bought a Canon Hv20. I have a Sony wide angle lens (vcl - hg0737x) which was permanently attached to the pdxr and gave lovely quality. Can I use the wide angle on the new canon via a step down ring (canon filter thread is 43mm sony is 37mm)? This would save me over £100 and is better in my pocket than Mr Canon's!

I might be wrong but I was led to believe that it is better to step up than to step down.
I have the same lens as you and agree withe comments on quality , used it with a step up from 30.5 to 37 with no concernable effects.

Yes, I suspect you are right in that it is better to step up than down - i'm just reluctant to ditch the Sony wide angle without a fight! I think what concerns me most is there may be some vignetting. Might just order a cheap ring and try it out.

Glad you could spell the effect I was thinking of lol , its worth a try with a cheap ring , let us know how you get on.
