I have a friend who is moving to London in september. He is big into HD programming, wants to have a chance of seeing some American sports in HD if possible. Also into gaming via Xbox 360, so needs someone who provides solid quality internet service. I'm just trying to do some research for him. Any opinions?

There is only one cable provider (Virgin) in London to my knowledge and then only in some locations. Your friend needs to find out the postcode (zipcode) of the house where he will be staying and then check availability in that area:

http://www.virginmedia.com/

They do provide some HD programming via a V+ STB.

As HD is a priority then Sky (satellite SD and HD and ADSL Internet) might be a better choice:

http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/home

or possibly from July:

Tiscalli TV (TV and ADSL Internet):

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitaltv/a42437/tiscali-tv-to-launch-march-1.html

If HD was a not a priority then he might consider

BT Vision (DTT TV and ADSL Internet):

For the internet side of things i can reccomend be* www.bethere.co.uk.

I have been with them for ages now and i can say they have been fantastic. never had any unplanned drop outs and i get speeds of 11mb even though i am quite away from the exchange. i pay £20 a month but i got a offer, so i think he would have to pay £24 but again its well worth it. it also works with a 360 for gaming with no problems! short contracts too just in case, its only 3 months notice you have to give.
