I was trying to set up a mates laptop before and couldnt get it wireless. At the moment he plugs in directly to the blueyonder modem via the ethernet cable. He has a hercules wireless router/modem. I pluged the ethernet cable from the blueyonder modem into the wireless router and with the laptop i tried to search for a wireless network but it couldnt see anythin. His laptop is wireless enabled. Its running xp. Have i don anythin wrong?

thanks for any help.

Not familiar with Hercules but here's a few bits of detective work to try :
Has it actually been enabled for wireless (someone could have logged into the router by connecting via an ethernet cable and disabled wireless options ?
Download Netstumbler and see if it can see the router's wireless transmissions.
Using the router's default IP address connect to it via ethernet cable and login with its password to see or check its settings.

I havent actually connected the router via ethernet. I will do and see what its settings are. The wireless light on the router was lit tho. I take it the pc should see the router regardless if it can connect to the net? And it doesnt matter that its a router/modem and hes using the blueyonder modem to connect?
I'll try the netstumbler too.
thanks

Yes, it should still see the router and use it as its gateway (even though the gateway itself may not be connected to the internet).
