Hi,
Have just done the following James Bond DVD Collection search...

1) James Bond Collection #1 (Contains 7 random JB films. Set 1 of 3, with the other two sets to be released in the future.)
or
2) James Bond Monster Collection (All 19 currently available JB films, with room for the eventual release of JB 20.)
or
3) The James Bond Tin Edition (All 19 currently available JB films, in a UK-specific, deluxe metal 007 tin, but WITHOUT room for JB 20! Howevr, it does include a 20th "Extras" disc, with material from JB 20!)
The question is this: In the UK, some of the later JB films were edited for violent content. As such, what I want to do is buy all of the JB films, but make sure they are as uncut as possible, AND as cheap as possible. I know the UK will be having a Buy 1 get 1 free offer, but if they've been cut, then I'm not happy!
So, which of the above sets would you folks go for, or would it be better to get the films separately, from various countries, including the USA, Canada, UK, and Australia? Ideally. I'd prefer to get ALL the films from the same territory.

I'd buy R1. But then I always do for movies. Might not be as cheap as UKR2 during 2 for 1 offers, but then what value can be put on an unedited cut of a film? (yes, I know that some movies are edited in the US with respect to the UK, but I'm referring to the Bond collection).

it was out of order to delete threads in response to yours in the way you did.
You should have posted a reply in the normal way.
If I had read your thread initially I would have probably posted a similar query.
And there's NO NEED TO SHOUT.
Your efforts as moderator are appreciated but if you use them in this way again I will be forced to revoke them.

Yes, only a moderator *could* delete it in that way.

Personally whilst the box would be nice what are you gonna do in 2 years time when the next movie comes out?
I'd go for buying the disks individually.
Another question though...
The disks, when arranged in the correct sequence create an image along the spines. Anyone know if the image is the same for disks from all regions and if you were to mix and match disks from different regions if the image would maintain its integrity.

Not convinced that you are using the correct verb but in the spirt of keeping things simple.......
Why would you want to know about the image keeping its integrity. Would this be a key factor in your buying decision?

:- Extrapolate: to infer more widely from a limited range of known facts.
Therefore. since I infered and you implied...
I find it impossible to extrapolate from your succint offering your meaning. Please offer a more verbose explanation so the less psychicly gifted amongst us can better understand you... :grin:
The integrity of the picture wouldnt be a deciding factor to me, but since we're talking about different boxes, types of boxes and the merits of having a gap to put an extra disk in I thought it worth raising the issue. Especially since people will no doubt mix and match regions to get the best compromise of uncut disks vs price.
Personally I couldnt give a 'short throw' one way or the other. Its the content that id be concerned with).

loaded used to do that on their spines with naked pictures of Jo Guest ( who incidentally is opening a new lap dancing club in Leeds in Nov)... i think what NeilH was getting at was "who the hell cares?!" if other regs match up or not.

The R1 discs do not feature a composite spine picture, thus allowing the addition of further Bond titles without any 'problems' - should that matter to you.
As for box vs individual releases, other than 2 for 1 offers I strongly suspect that it would be cheaper to collect the lot by buying the 3 box sets - and one can always bin the boxes anyway (just as I did) to allow for further titles, especially as the contents are 'random'.

Hi Folks,
Sincere apologies to "James45" and "Whoami" for deleting their original posts. However, in my defence, "Whoami's" did appear to imply that I was going to be spending money donated to me for my move - which is NOT the case. I may well have mentioned that I intend buying the JB DVD's at some point, but it was wrong for "WhoamI" (or anyone else for that matter) to automatically presume that the purchase(s) would be with donated funds!
As it stands, none of the funds donated to me will be used, and that is a cast iron guarantee! I did take personal offence from Whoami's post, and that is why it was deleted. James' post was just an addendum to "WhoamI's" comments, and was deleted purely unintentionally.
Anyway, apologies once again, to James, Whoami, and Spectre. :( It just bugs the hell out of me, when people automatically presume certain things, when they don't know everything!
Okay, complaint over.

No offence intended!
It just reminded me of the old James Ferman BBFC days when he refused to give classification to things that he personally did not like.
Pooch said he deleted the posts because he took personal dislike to them.
It was meant as a light hearted comment, that's all.

You shouldn't need to apologise. You should stick up for yourself. You made a fair comment. Pehaps because you didn't do the first part as a quote it was misunderstood.

Addressing the original question, the following Bond movies are cut in the UK (according to the BBFC)
Diamonds Are Forever (possibly the elevator fight scene).
Goldeneye.
Tomorrow Never Dies.
License To Kill was cut but the cuts were waived for the DVD release and the fact that it is rated "15".
On Her Majesties Secret Service although not cut, sometimes appears in a shorter version with the safe cracking sequence removed (about 5 minutes or so).
Odds on the new one will be too.

The spines on the UK R2 Bonds form the 007 logo when the full set is lined up. The R1 US releases have a mini picture of the actor playing Bond in that particular movie on the spine.
This is pretty cool as R1 MGM/UA also release the two unofficial 007 movies 'Never Say Never Again' and 'Casino Royale', and have followed the same spine design for these two movies as well.
