V+ HDMI to VGA

My parents have an old Panasonic plasma which they'd like to use with HD content. It has no HDMI connection so will be limited to what it can display, unless of course a Lektropacks HDMI to VGA converter would work. Anyone know about these?

It says it supports HDCP too, so I'm assuming it would allow all protected content to be played over the VGA/component cables.

One other question: Does the V+ box require the audio to be sent through the HDMI socket? I notice it has an optical out, so I'm assuming that would work with the HDMI for the display.

Re: V+ HDMI to VGA

The Lektropaks Converter should work fine, with protected content too - but doesn't your parents plasma have DVI or component connections you could utilise instead?

Whatever route you decide to go down, the optical output should work just fine for audio

This is of interest to me , please advise if you can

I have an older Philips Plasma with no HDMI, although it does have Component video connections red green blue

Should I use these for the connection to my new V+ box which also has component video

Audio is via optical coax to my home cinema amp

would the converter mentioned above be a better way of connecting to obtain some form of hd output and what sort of quality would this be

I'm unsure of the quality of these converters. People have said the component on the V+ is very good anyway, and it's doubtful that converting HDMI to component would look as good as component to component (i.e. no conversion). The only benefit of using a converter is that there is some HD VoD content that can only be viewed via HDMI, due to HDCP (albeit very little content apparently).

Hope that answers your questions

Many thanks for that helps greatly, I'll pass on the converter, and give the component to component option a go later,

Re: V+ HDMI to VGA

If the screen has a DVI input you could use a HD Fury no ?

These are half the price of the convertor and support up to 1080P
