I would love to see this happen too, but somehow can't see it becoming a reality this year either. Now if the BBC still had the rights then it would be a different matter. As it stands it would be nice just to get a decent quality SD picture... never mind HD

I think we have got more chance of F1 going HD than normal crappy SD being improved.

Don't hold your breath. ITV are now a mediocre organisation with one aim in mind. Profit over quality!

Of course, ITV don't orginate the pictures - it is the host country of the race. So my guess is that we are some years away and even then there will be races in SD.

I must admit I find it rather strange for a sport that supposedly represents the very pinnacle of motorsport, with all the state of the art technology that goes with it, is broadcast in crappy old SD whilst the likes of football, which involves a few blokes kicking a ball around, is broadcast in glorious HD. :suicide:

they need to bring back that F1 channel on sky. I never paid for it before, but I'd strongly consider if it was in HD 16:9

no matter what the picture quality it's still the most boring sport in the world, whoever get pole wins the race,if you can call it a race more like follow the leader

F1 in HD is simply amazing. When I used to live in Australia, I saw the Melbourne 2006 broadcast in HD, and the quality was simply amazing. I think "Sky Sports F1 HD" would be awesome. :D

do they still show f1 in HD in australia? (i thought everyone used the same feed for F1 - i.e broadcasts just feed from the one main feed? - which is why ITV cant control when we see replays etc - or am i wrong on that ?)

the director of the race's country controls the camers's and replays

This is all very well and a welcome step in the right direction, but it doesn't solve the problem of ITV not having a HD channel in the UK any more.

I haven't heard of any plans to resume the ITV HD trial that we had for the World Cup, as after that finished we had about 3 programmes in rotation

ITV are spending big money with the Beeb to get the Freesat (not from sky) going this is when they will most likely introduce HD. However F1 has been supplied by Bernie to the broadcasters in HD since the first race in Oz this season hence why we have wide screen and certain cinemas are screening F1 in the UK.
ITV record the interviews not provided by Bernie in HD also. Sislink provide the uplink for them, so the infrastructure is there they just need a HD channel to punt it on.

There was word of Setanta helping out ITV with F1 in HD till freesat arrived but i have not heard anything about it since. Not sure how that would work TBH especially with the contract ITV have with Bernie. Let alone the issue of Sultana (lol) not having a HD channel.

I am aware there are transponder constraints at moment in regards to anyone launching a new HD service on Sky till the new Astra satellite has taken over some non UK services. Which i believe had been done so expect things to happen soon after Summer, but that has been the hold up manily.
This was from someone I know who works within FX. They also said getting a EPG slot with Sky can take up to nine months. So these all add to the time it takes to get on air.
Five are considering going on SkyHD before the Freesat alternative happens.

What i find really strange and quite annoying is that NO motorsport broadcast in the UK is in HD i mean Sky do Indycar which must be recorded in HD as the yanks are way ahead of us on this and BBC do the Bikes (which thinking about it sometimes isn't even in WS!!) Both have the channels and infrastructure in place... I can possibly understand the beeb as it isn't a fully fledged channel with a fully supportive budget but Sky.. they could get far more sport in HD. The majority on SS1/2 HD is not HD that needs to change!

ITV cann't even give me a good SD pic from my local studios in Birmingham!
