PVR including DVD recorder-which one?

Hi,

I'm looking to get a PVR hard drive recorder, but with an integrated DVD recorder so that I can put certain programs onto a DVD and take it away. I would also then be able to play DVDs on the same unit.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to which one I should buy?

Thanks very much.

Karen.

Re: PVR including DVD recorder-which one?

Hi & welcome

Notice your getting no replies; this may be because DVD Recorders even if they also have Hard Disk Drives get mostly dealt with on the DVD recorder forum.
The term PVR tends to get used on here to mean HDD only, twin digital tuner recorders. Having said that a lot of the regulars on here use DVD recorders as well as PVRs.
Cannot help much myself as do not use DVD recording; suggest you have a good look through the DVD recorder forum especially at Panasonic; Pioneer and Sony stuff.

Re: PVR including DVD recorder-which one?

I used to think this would be a good idea but have done it I now realise that integrated PVR/DVD is not the ideal. From a replacement point of view it is cheaper to have 2 boxes then when one breaks it is cheaper to replace. For choice, you would get the best PVR (toppy :-)) if you define as must an integral DVD. And finally for best DVD result you really need a PC if you are going to trim adverts, add menus, etc. Especially if you want to recompress then a PC double pass VBR will be far better than a DVD recorded on the fly.

Re: PVR including DVD recorder-which one?

I think any Freeview PVR with added DVD recorder would still be mostly used as a PVR with less frequent use of the disc writer for archiving, so it certainly seems natural for it to be dealt with here. I've been looking for something to replace the venerable old Pace Twin but I think the holy grail I'm hoping for doesn't exist - any PVR that adds a DVD recorder seems to only be single-tuner, I really want there to be a box which has all the twin tuner functionality of my Pace Twin but also with DVD recorder for archiving, image upscaling to HD, HDMI, etc etc - in short, I want a box from The Future.
