integrated home automation.
hello,
am currently completely gutting out a property and want to fit a 'high end' home automation system from scratch.
what is the best system to go for, that offers complete control over lighting, climate, aswell as multi room media.
cheers.
Alex

Re: integrated home automation.
Depends on many factors mainly budget......... if you have £100K+ to spend on this then your looking at different system to if you have £20-30k and differnet if you have £5k Also depends what you mean by "high End" one mans High End is anothers basic bones. Lighting isnt too Hard Lutron HElvar RAKO can all control lighting and integrate into other systems AMX, Crestron, Netstreams (I like netstreams) see the netstreams thread for more info. WHat do you want automated? What level of control? These systems arent DIY fit or commision in most cases, where abouts are you?

Re: integrated home automation.
thanks for your reply.
the conversion is for a house that is being sold for over a million! and is in the london area, so i guess it needs to be fairly hi spec. ( not my house unfortunatley! )
im guessing if its goin to be fitted, it may aswell control everything! climate/AV/ and lighting.
would it be best to just install all the cabling and do a DIY job? or would a complete Amx/Creston system be the best option (how much would it cost for a 4 bed house?)
it needs to look the business, as the seller is hoping to sell the house to a high flyer, but obviously the costs need to be kept to a minimum, with the same finish.
cheers

Re: integrated home automation.
Hi, Yes youcould look at an AMX or Crestron set-up, but if you are positive you need climate control as well the be prepared to spend some money.
Alternatively as cliamte can often be set to work on it's own there is a great ssolution combining iDyl and Livingcontrol that gives you very stylish Audio/Video and lighting solution with a media storage as well.

Re: integrated home automation.
thanks for your replies.
we have a budget of between 10 - 20k.
what kind of prices are we looking at for both the AMX/Creston and the cheaper alternatives?
thanks again.

For that budget I would not consider AMX or Cretsron as your taking a product range an opting for the cheapest range they offer to get within the budget.
Dependant on thw number of zones you could maybe get away with a Livingcontrol system but again, they are coming in around the £49K mark, I think you need to be a bit mkore specific on exactly the parts you need or desire and work from there.
Regards

Re: integrated home automation.
Is your £10-£20k for everything or just the AMX/Crestron type control system? If it's the latter then I would suggest you take a look at Netstreams as HD has already suggested. It looks good, can control all of the elements you want providing you pick systems it already supports and could maybe replace the multiroom audio system you may have been considering. It should be much easier to configure, document & support which would be important considering the property is to be sold on.

Re: integrated home automation.
if it is a spec system then often you dont need to put it all but make good provision and prove the effectiveness by having key rooms installed and the option to upgrade at a later date Master bed and kitchen + dining are the ones i would go for in the first instance speccing this for lighting and media with the option to add climate if desired is the way to go dotn blow your budget on luxuries that they may not want there is a very cost effective way of doing this which gives you the "look" without the investment then if the high flyer wishes they can make the investment for them selves

Re: integrated home automation.
Essex based Rayleigh Hi-Fi (Custom Install Dept.). Speak to Steve Rutherford and no one else. They're excellent - might have to wait a bit though - they are normally extremely busy.
