Just ordered a 'Nifty Fifty' !!!

Just ordered the Canon 50 mm f1.8 from Amazon.

OK so its hardly the 70-200 f2.8 L IS, but it is the first additon to my lens collection and I cant wait for it to arrive !!

Heard such good things about this despite the cheap price and the apparent 'plasticky' feel. Looking forward to some good background blur shots !

Cheers, jonandjen

Cool. Its not all round perfect but you cant argue with it for the price.

Dont drop it & try not to shoot lower than f2.2.

Its a geat lens.
But im guessing you didnt read much on here about it, coz you can get it about £20 cheaper than on amazon.

Have fun with it.

Re: Just ordered a 'Nifty Fifty' !!!

It is sharp fast and serious VFM lens

Downsides:
The fixed focal length ( and viewpoint) may take some getting used to
You'll soon get curious to see what the 1.4 gets you
(Ive got both .. the 1.4 isnt sharper although is better in most other ways but it is over £200)
Build quality ...sucks
AF ... wont win any medals for speed ( but there's always manual focus)
Bokeh ...as said above avoid going too wide, it could be "creamier"

Otherwise none, It is a cracking little lens . Its performance puts many of the budget Wide angle Zooms at 50mm to shame

Welcome to the world of primes
You'll love it!

Re: Just ordered a 'Nifty Fifty' !!!

The Minolta version of the "nifty-fifty" which I have for the Sony is my most used lens. 50mm F1.7. Great for candids and it's left on my camera most of the time.

You're right Highlander1, could have got it cheaper from places like onestop etc, however I got it for £67 which is not too bad, and with the bonus of (very) quick delivery (and with a couple of DVDs, a CD and a photography book in the box also !!).

Cheers, jonandjen

Good job. Have you taken any photos with it yet?
First thing i had to get used too was using my legs to zoom !!!

I love it though, really worth the money.
