MS309 sub popular but/and low reliability?

309W seems a popular recommendation but i see lots of complains that the sub blowing fuse, cutting out or simply failing to wake up from off.

309i supposedly a new revision which i assume fixes the early faults, seem to be just as problematic....

i even seen 409 from the genies having problems.

so...is it something with MS subs manufacturing(being budget subs)...or unlucky people just voiced out louder?

Re: MS309 sub popular but/and low reliability?

I'd say the latter.
I'm fairly sure the fuse problem was sorted ages ago.
Even then, it's hardly a major problem, IMO.
I can recall very few problems to be honest, the fuse apart, so I wouldn't call it particularly unreliable.
Mine worked perfectly for me in the time that I had it and I regard it highly

Re: MS309 sub popular but/and low reliability?

The first MS309 (the non 'i' version) I had worked for a week before it died on me (I think it was a problem with a relay because instead of the nice click sound you get when you normally turned it on I was getting more of a thud) but the replacement has been working without any problems for nearly two years now so I'm very happy with it.

Re: MS309 sub popular but/and low reliability?

My 309 (old version) has been working for over a year with no problems at all. Although I have only switched it off a couple of times I cannot fault the build quality and can't recommend it enough. For the money you would struggle to find a better sub and IMO looks wise you can't beat the aluminium cone!

It does struggle to wake up when in the auto mode but just leave it on permanently, so much easier (I'm v. lazy) and won't increase your elec bills too much.

Re: MS309 sub popular but/and low reliability?

i've had the old 309 for about 18 months and never had a single problem with it. i use it every day and turn it off manually by the switch on the back when i don't need it, so on and off every day, sometimes more than once at weekends. i think it's a great sub to match my 906i, 905i and 902i setup

Re: MS309 sub popular but/and low reliability?

My 309i seems to be getting better! Did seem a bit boomy at first, but now base seems tighter and lower.

Not really strictly set up either , got cross-over 80hz and volume at just under half. Just left the other two knobs at half, but still sounds great. Had no problems at all
