View Full Version : Distribution of Cable around my house - HELP !
I have installed aerial sockets around my home (8) and the wires feed back to central point in a downstairs cupboard. I have been using an SLX8L to distribute the picture from my NTL cable box to the sockets around my home but it seems to fail after a short period (I have had 2 now and they both only seem to last for 6 months before shorting out). They have been installed in accordance with the instructions so its a mystery to me why this keeps happening ? On inspection of the aerial cables, I noted that the aerial wires connected to the bottom connections of the SLX were going green ! I am pretty sure that is down to the acid that was leaking out of the unit (and ruined my clothes !!). Can anyone give me some advice as to why this is happening ? Is Philex a poor brand ? If so, any suggestions for alternatives ?

Philex isn't a particularly good brand IMO.
However, acid leaks shouldn't happen.
Could be liquid or gel electrolyte leaking from underrated electrolytic capacitors in the equipment or electrolytic corrosion caused by dissimilar metals being in contact where plugs and sockets mate with each other.

Thanks for the advice, any recommendations for alternative distribution amplifiers ? Cheers

i can recommend the labgear, DA282
8 way distribution amplifier, it has F connectors which are better especially seeming as you are trying to distribute cable.

But why do you need to amplify it? wouldnt an 8 Way Splitter be more appropriate? its all Virgin media installers normally use to split cables, 2 or 3 way splitters.

Presumably it is the RF output from the STB which is being distributed so would need to be amplified for multi TVs/length of coax.
