Any news on Leopard release date?

I'm holding off purchsing an iMac as Leopard is supposedly due anytime now.

In the meantime I'm stuck with a PC on it's last legs!

Has there been any news on a release date yet, I'm getting impatient

Re: Any news on Leopard release date?

Seems like it's now on for June (there was some hope of an April release)

But rumours today that its delayed until October - for Vista compatability. They have an 'integrated bootcamp' and they want it to be able to boot Vista

It has to be said these rumours are from and not that reliable source, historically.

Thanks for that mate, have to say I've struggled to pick-up any news on this online.

Not sure I can wait till June as my PC is genuinely on it's last legs. There must be plenty of people holding back on buying a Mac with Leopard so close to release - you'd think Apple would be doing something to address this if only giving a definitive release date.

Re: Any news on Leopard release date?

I visit Macrumors, com for a lot of info.

Apple will upgrade you (free) for 30 days if you buy a machine and Leopard comes out soon after.

Of course, you could buy now and upgrade...the cost is (usually) not too bad and MUCH better than Windows OS costs.

I'm waiting for Leopard (and a Mini upgrade) for my new Mac Mini media centre. October seems a long way off June/July might be feasable

Re: Any news on Leopard release date?

Apple hasn't disclosed the secret features of Leopard yet, and there will need to be several developer seeds after that, then production of physical product. Spring ends on 20th June apparently, and Apple have said Lepard will ship this spring, so the conclusion must be that it will ship very close to that date. The stupid Vista compatibility / October release story is clearly complete rubbish.

There are two events coming up that could well reveal more information about Leopard and about any new Macs: NAB 2007 (14th April), and the Adobe CS3 launch (27th March). Both are likely to feature major application releases that need to exploit / be compatible with Leopard.

I really don't know anything about Apple as a company but WWDC is between 11th June - 15th June and that is Spring so does anyone think Apple might release Leopard then?

My PC stopped working back in October after about 5 years of usage (not too bad as I had only ever upgraded the HDD and added some RAM during that time) and I really do hope they announce something soon. If they announce Leopard along with a new Mac Mini soon I am going buy that as well as the Macbook Pro I really want.

Re: Any news on Leopard release date?

I reckon it will be about the same time or maybe a couple of weeks after the release of Santa Rosa which is scheduled for 9th May.

Re: Any news on Leopard release date?

Hmm... when they announce a 'Spring' release I really hoped this meant around Easter but if it was due anytime soon I'm sure they'd be advertising the fact along with any functionality that might detract from Vista.

My PC needs replacing asap so guess I'll have to take the plunge now and upgrade to Leopard later if it's worthwhile, hopefully not too painfull a task

Why is that then? Im not saying I believe the story by anymeans. But there has been rumours that 10.5 will have virtualization.

And I thin Leopard will be unveiled at WWDC in June. Shipping early July.

Re: Any news on Leopard release date?

Why bother delaying Leopard to support Vista, when Vista isn't even working as intended on it's target base yet?

Oooh good point! I suppose most of the current Vista problems are hardware related, and with a fixed known hardware base that could easily be a posibility.

I would still be disappointed if Leopard was delayed due to bragging rights though.

Re: Any news on Leopard release date?

The only significant problem for Apple to support Vista is the unavailability of Vista DRM compliant drivers for the graphics chips. Obviously that can be easily shipped via software update whenever MS/Nvidia/Intel/AMD manage to get them working!

Apple certainly appears to be happy to let Parallels / VMWare have the virtualisation market for now. So I don't think we'll see Xen in 10.5.

The "secret features" may include new UI that further exploits core animation and its other half: multitouch. Note that Apple notebook trackpad and mighty mouse hardware already have some multitouch capability. You can see multitouch with core animation demonstrated on iPhone (launch video or apple.com/iphone); iPhone is OS X based.

Re: Any news on Leopard release date?

The rumour about the delay to October has been quashed by Apple - release still slated for 'Spring' ... whatever that means (could have meant yesterday !)
