mac mini htpc

have dicided to go down the htpc route and get myself a mac mini. i currently have a g5 core duo and was going to use that but this is the "family pc".

this is all new to me so just wanted to ask some questions.

how do i rip the movie and do i just stick it in a folder of my choice.

what format do i rip the movie to (avi/mpeg4/divx)

do i just use vlc/quictime to play it back throught the mini dvi

i currently have toast and mactheripper installed

thanks in advance

Re: mac mini htpc

Mac the Ripper will take a DVD and desposit it (without Macrovision, I believe) where you choose on your hard drive. You can choose movie only or the whole things with menus. Filesize will be pretty much the same as the DVD (4-8gb)

Handbrake will rip a DVD into a compressed file.

If you want to preserve 5.1 sound, I would rip to DivX and play in VLC Player.
If you want to play in Frontrow, I would rip to mp4. Use H264 for smaller filesize. However, you will only get stereo though quiktime (which Front row uses)
