VLC settings

My server/HTPC broke down the other day, it's a PowerBook G4 and my brother is fixing it now.
At the moment to watch my avi's I'm using my other PowerBook G4, it's a more powerful model than the one that's being repaired but doesn't play avi's via VLC as good. I get some warnings like "resetting the heap", the picture takes a while to unfreeze after it's been paused for a few seconds sometimes.

I'm curious to what other people's Preference's were, mac related or not in VLC?

Not sure what settings anyone can provide to help you, most users (I think) just change preferences for cosmetic things.

Searching the VLC forums, the problem is quite common for OSX and Linux builds, mainly centered around DVDs and subtitles.

Try downloading the latest nightly build for PPC from here, see if that helps.
