Have to agree...these films are a few of my 'guilty pleasures'.

Although i know i should really rather dislike these movies (especially being a big fan of the RE games) i can't quite bring myself to - although i do hope the third one has a lot more to offer than Mila doing her 'Super Hero' stunts that almost ruined the 2nd film and have nothing at all to do with the original games or story ...!!

But whats new !!

:lease: don't screw it up again Mr Paul.W.S Anderson !!

Got to admit I love the 'Resident Evil' movies.

Its films like this that make me think there are far too many film "snobs" out there

I dont mean that to sound as rude as it probably does but seems an awful lot of people pick faults at movies like these for not being to the standard of The Godfather, Goodfellas,Shawhank and the likes.

At end of day though I dont think they are trying to be, there just there for entertainment. As much as I enjoy the aforementioned films and have watched them time and again I have probably watched the likes of RE1 and 2 more.

If I have 90 minutes to kill they are ideal. If after a hard days work I just want to switch off then again they are ideal.

I for one will be buying this the second it comes on on whatever HD format it arrives on (I dont go to the cinema these days)

its enjoyable but not a patch on the first but equal or better than the 2nd. Visuals are good especially as Milla is present but where as the 1st film had a lot of suspence this one seems to have done away with that format and gone with more action. echos of day of the dead are very obvious in it as well.

Its crap - its like those afwul direct to video post apocalyptic action films you used to get in the 80's. :thumbsdow

Great

Time to re-watch the first two then..

I totally agree. I cant wait to see this new instalment of RE. I have seen RE 1 & 2 countless times and have enjoyed watching it every time. Movies don't have to be technical master pieces to be good entertainment.

First one was the best of the recent zombie type movies. Loved the stuck in the research facility type thing. The second one was abit pants in comparison. To be honest I found it too different. Maybe the third will be different again, so making it more like the first?!!?!?;)

I actually liked the 2nd movie more than the first (I loved the first movie). Its one of the only sequels which I think is better than the original. :)

For films like these I run through the following before watching.

1. Go to cinema/get DVD
2. If 1 above is get DVD, get vodka
3. Turn off brain
4. Enjoy film

Works every time. When I'm not expecting much I'm pleasantly suprised. When I've been dying to see a movie it usually is a let down.

Recent example?

Die Hard 4.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't think I would. Didn't expect much.

Yes it was rubbish, but enjoyable rubbish.

Same here, I really enjoyed the first movie but loved the second.

Hopefully the third is just as good and from what I've heard it's quite likely to have another sequel continuing story!

Now this is great news. Resident Evil for me is the best computer game to movie tie in. I was shocked how much I liked it and how good it was when I saw Resident Evil 1.

Saw this movie last night. Oh-my-god. I haven't felt like walking out of a movie in years, but I nearly did. What a total pile of steaming , and that's coming from someone who quite enjoyed the first two.

Where do I start? (some invisible spoiler text below)

1. There's hardly any action in it, and what we do have is really weak. The final boss fight was a major let-down, lasting all of...ooh 2 minutes?
2. The special effects are pants. I mean those birds, ugh. When the truck is driven towards the Umbrella Corp base & piles through the undead...the top-down shots are terrible...the undead have PS2 standard graphics
3. Cheap & repetitive shock tactics. The only way the film generates a shock is with a sudden LOUD noise...time & time again...to the point it becomes soooo predictable.
4. Script. What script?

5. It sucks. Bad bad bad. Don't watch this movie!!.

Mila is looking rough in this one. I guess due to the good ol' aging process, they've had to apply her make-up with a trowel. Close-ups are funny...I thought human skin had *pores*.

There is a few semi naughty pics of her (one with squirty cream  ) but no where near what there should be. But I expect this to change since she has been in Heroes. I just wish she would hurry up.

No offence mate...but i am always amazed when people say things like this about a sequel, especially when they liked the previous films.

I am a huge fan of the first film, having played the Playstation games when they were first released. Then the second movie, although it wasnt quite in the same class as the first.
I went to the cinema to see Extinction last Sunday night, and i really enjoyed it. I will definitely be buying it on dvd when it comes out,to keep my collection up to date.

The ending very obviously sets it up for a fourth movie, and yes...i will go to see that as well. :)

I'll definitely give the CG resident evil movie "biohazard: degeneration" a rental although I'm not sure CGI's at a level that's affordable enough to do an action film Justice.

I saw this last week with a few mates, and loved it. I was a huge fan of the first two anyway, so I knew I would enjoy it to some extent. I can't wait for this to be released on DVD/Blu-Ray, will definitely be a 'must purchase'.

P.S. I loved the zombie crows! Especially when they decided to feast on Ashanti!

I have had this on Region 1 DVD since before Christmas, but finally got around to watching it tonight.

I was immediately struck by how good the picture quality is...easily as good as any Blu-ray i have watched on my PS3,although the DVD player used will contribute to this. The beginning that replays the mansion scene at the start of the first film, looks noticeably better than my Superbit copy of that film.
The packaging states "mastered in high definition",although i cannot confess to completely understand what effect this has.
The sound quality as well, the multi channel use is great all through the film, particularly in the crow fight scene, and the underground lab at the end.

Now and again i watch a DVD that particularly impresses me for the quality of video and audio, regardless of whether i like the story or not....this is one such DVD. :smashin:

Usually what it sounds like. The master the SD DVD is taken from is High Definition and downconverted to 480 NTSC or 576 PAL. The masters are 1080p just like what you get on HD-DVD/Blu Ray.

The technique has been around for years with SD DVD .

I still need to see the film but as I liked the previous two and liked the trailer, I am sure I will like this one.

How commonly is it used in normal DVD production though?
Does it always make a noticeable improvement to the end result(would certainly seem so in this case),or is the statement used more with a marketing ploy in mind?
I only wonder, because i have personally not seen this before.

Oh,and if you liked the first 2,you cannot fail to enjoy this third film also. :)

Good film, as people have said if you like the first 2 ,you will like the 3rd……

As a side note we saw this at our local empire was on opening weekend so was on one of the larger screens
And what I noticed was Milla go from dirty and bloody face on longer panning shots to, lovely clean glowing soft skinned
Almost artificial Close up shots…..it was very noticeable on the big screen, I wonder if its noticeable on the DVD’s…..

I though they had stopped doing this back in the 80’s when some actresses had what seem like there own camera set up
For close up shots, Very warm and fuzzy is the only way I can describe it…

Mark.

Thinking about it, I have only seen it on older R1 DVD's with it on the back (haven't bought R1 for a while). It is really small at the bottom. So, most people wouldn't even know about it. It is not a sign of guaranteed better quality more like another bit of useless information on the cover.

Funny you should mention this..i seen it in the Cinema also, and never noticed this, but while watching the DVD,i did think that the close ups of Milla's face showed her complexion to be unusually flawless and in a sort of soft focus.

For the record,i would say i enjoyed the DVD viewing of this film better than in the cinema, mainly because the sound had a much greater impact on me. :)

I liked the film too. It didn't get released on DVD in UK yet, but it will on the days. There's quite an interesting thing going on about the release, I just read this (http://www.binaryjoy.co.uk/games/games-news/resident-evil-extinction-competition/) article about a competition. Went on the site, the idea was creative.

I found Resident evil extinction extremely disappointing failing to take the franchise to the next level. In my honest opinion it's as if they made it on a much lower budget so much so that they couldn't even afford to shoot in the darkness. The action was pretty disappointing, the story virtually went off at a tangent instead of continuing where resident evil Apocalypse left off, all and all it was a damp squib.

Let's hope the next inevitable straight to DVD sequel is much better than this.
