Uncompressed 5.1...question?

Hello,

I have a movie...Brothers Grimm which has an uncompressed 5.1 soundtrack.

How are you supposed to listen to this on your amp?

When i switch to uncompressed, my Sony Amp switches to 2.1.....it was the same with my last Yamaha amp.

\how do you go about listening to this properly?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Uncompressed 5.1...question?

Is this a Blu Ray disc?

Uncompressed audio is generally on HD formats, the player sends the code, via HDMi to the amp (the amp needs to acept LPCM).

This then plays. Other than that is via analoge 5.1 inputs from the player to the amp.

Re: Uncompressed 5.1...question?

Hello,

Thanks for the reply!

I forgot to mention, its a Blu Ray disc being played on my PS3.

I have the PS3 connected to the TV with HDMI and an optical cable running to my amp.

Maybe i need to connect my PS3 to my amp with HDMI?

Yes you, run a HDMi cable from your PS3 to your amp and then another HDMI from the amp to the PS3.

What amp is it?

then sadly it wont work....

1200ES only does video via HDMI or passes the audio straight on to the TV...it doesnt strip the audio off, decode it, amplify it and pass it to speakers...

you need the 3200 or above for HDMI audio...

so sadly the Optical is the best you going to get....the disc should output a conventional Dolby Digital or DTS track via optical....if lucky you might get a full bitrate DTS which is still better than normal.....but not as good as the uncompressed track by a long chalk....well, it depends on the speakers of course, if they are very good then it'll show, if not then it wont...
