OK, I'm counting down the days for when Apple TV is finally released, lots of reports saying it will be in the shops around the 28th March....

The only problem I have is that I've not got a High Definition TV, although it will work with SD TV's from what I'm told. The output from the Apple TV is either HDMI (Which obviously won't work) or Component Video but my TV only has scart imputs so could I use this?

Thanks George

Straight out of the box no, but you could look at putting one of these (http://www.js-technology.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=52&osCsid=35ef9423ee0b9ac21059b43c14e86fd2) in the chain.

Not cheap, but it will do what you want it to do, very well in fact.

Thanks for the quick reply.... so why won't the lead work just on it's own, is it something to do with the image scaling (sorry for my ignorance!)
That little box looks like it would do the trick, although it's an expensive solution....

Apple TV £200
Scart-to-component-video-cable £30.00
Component (YUV) to RGB/VGA Converter £150.00
£380.00......

may as well get a mac mini for that and run Front Row....

Sorry, ought to qualify this. The cable you linked to might work, but only if your tv supports YUV colourspace over scart (most don't). The box of tricks I linked to not only converts from Component to Scart, but also does colourspace conversion from YUV to RGB.

You'll also need to make sure you output an interlaced image as scart can't carry progressive scan signals.

This is the TV I've got...
http://www.jvc.co.uk/product.php?id=AV-28T5SK&catid=100058&sub=file#table

Just downloaded the pdf and from what I can see it does not support YUV colourspace over scart, could you check?

So I guess the only option would be to use the box of tricks you suggested, or a mac mini with front row and forget about apple tv

Sorry, doesn't look like it. I wouldn't expect this kind of connection to be supported on anything except some of the more extravagent Loewe sets. You may want to have a trawl through the trading forums and see if anything comes up there, JS Tech boxes (of various flavours) come up there quite regularly.

Good luck.

Which forum, section would be best to post a 'Wanted' thread?
Sorry for all the questions.

Sorry for all the questions.

I'd post one in here (http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=198).

And don't worry about asking questions, that's what the forum is for

the keane one is composite to scart which isn't right mate, and the other is RGB scart to component, these are available cheaper than the JS ones but it's converting the wrong way for your needs. Off hand, I don't know of another component to RGB converter I'm afraid

Why not try something like this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RGB-COMPONENT-3-RCA-PHONO-OUT-TO-SCART-VIDEO-CABLE-3M_W0QQitemZ230103726548QQcategoryZ32837QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem)? Don't know much about the quality of the item but it does what you need.

That's what I was going to do, using this:
http://www.futureshop.co.uk/profigol...15m-p-297.html

But ahin4114, suggested it won't work and I'd needed one of these:
http://www.js-technology.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=52&osCsid=35ef9423ee0b9ac21059b43c14e86fd2

Just trying to find a cheaper alternative really as otherwise it's just not worth doing and I may as well get a mac mini as a music server using front row

Thanks George

We have recently lowered the price of the Component (YUV) to RGB / VGA converter just for Apple TV. We've got other customers who give us excellent feedback on the picture quality of the converter.

All the best,

Dr John Sim.
