I have read the existing "hot fuzz" thread on here with genuine excitement which lead me booking a showing at our local cinema for me and the Mrs on Saturday night.
Had a few drinks before to loosen us both up a bit and settled down to watch it with around 100 or so fellow viewers.
Started off OK, but soon I realised our mistake...:thumbsdow :(
This film is shockingly poor. I cannot believe fellow forum users actually said that they enjoyed this film.:nono:
The only thing that stopped us walking out was because we were too far away from the aisle and would of upset too many people by getting up.
Guys, am I seriously lacking a sense of humour??

It's probably a mistake going to see a film on the recommendation of people you've never met, so you don't have a real idea of whether you share a common taste. Have any of your friends seen it sober and recommended it ?

I was in complete control of my emotions!
Just thought the script was poor, acting even worse and the plot was predictable.
Too much emphasive was placed upon guns and loud bangs. It was just so silly. The Mrs even fell asleep she was that impressed!
The only bit I thought was funny was the "swear box" scene with the offensive words and the financial penalty.

I would recommend just that. Don't waste your time and effort seeing it at the pictures, or even at all!

I think the emphasis on loud bangs was intentional, after all it was a send up of other cop films such as Bad Boys 2, I think they were pretty clear about this from the start.
With regards to the humour, the majority of jokes that had me in stitches were all of the subtle 'in' jokes.
Having watched Space many times I found myself laughing with about two or three other randoms in a full screen, a lot of the other jokes were funny if you had seen a certain film.
There were also parts I didn't find amusing but my mate who is a copper found hilarious, stuff about being on and off duty!?!
For me that sort of multi-layered humour is the most intelligent as it is aimed at so many different groups of people at different times as well as having some lowest common denominator stuff that is your more classical humour (such as the swear box), I fell into all but one of the categories and foud it hilarious.
Fair play if you didn't fall into any of the categories then you wouldn't of found it funny of course, but to say the script is bad? I must disagree with that!
As for poor acting, Simon Pegg is already a hit in the states due to his abilities, and then there was Jim Broadbent, Edward Woodward, Bill Nighy, Steve Coogan, Martin Freeman, Bill Bailey and Timothy Dalton (a proper actor Bond aside!) among other strong actors. To say the film was poorly acted out puts a pretty bad slant on British actors doesn't it.
I found the film enjoyable, you didn't, we are entitled to that. To say the film was bad just because you didn't enjoy it...
I personally didn't enjoy Gangs of New York, Moulin Rouge, Casblanca, Gone With the Wind, the majority of Quentin Tarantino films, however, I recognise that they are good films all the same, just not my thing.

I'm in total agreement with you. I haven't checked the original thread but when I checked it after finally seeing the film a couple of weeks ago it had four pages of nonsense like "best British film evah" or "best film this year".
Lazy, self-indulgent tosh that someone forgot to write some jokes for (unless you count endlessly repeated double-entendres that even the Carry On movies would have turned their noses up at).
I thought Cosmo Landseman's review in The Sunday Times summed it up rather well : "'Whereas Shaun of the Dead was a small, low budget gem, Hot Fuzz is the kind of over-indulgent, underwritten work that comes when your first film is a hit and you are handed the keys to the cinematic sweet shop"

I'm glad there's someone who feels the same as I do about this film, as I was starting to feel like a bit of a leper...
Shaun Of The Dead urinates on this cack,(hell the Blades Of Glory trailer beforehand even urinated on it), from a great height. Action comedy? Where? The comedy wasn't terribly comic and the action was... Where was it? The end? Oh, terribly sorry!!
It was a duff murder mystery/satire on English villages,(let's rip the urine out of The Wicker Man, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY), hardly Hollywood challenging stuff. An Empire cover with Bourne and McClane? HA!! It was probably suited to a late night slot on Channel 4.
I'm not gonna knock the acting, I thought Timothy Dalton was wonderfully evil, and deserves much more work. Simon Pegg does what he does, even though Angel,(Angle...), is a bit of a pratt, he makes the character oddly likeable. Nick Frost is, em... well... Nick Frost.
It succumbs to the same problem of the woeful Johnny English, which while watching, I wanted nothing more than to watch a proper Bond film, not some naff spoof that tries and fails to mimic certain areas of what it's taking the mickey out of. During Cold Fuzz I just wanted to go home and watch Bad Boys II, which say what you will, is a hell of a lot more entertaining than this damp squib. Over and out...

I can't agree with either extreme in this thread. Personally I did enjoy Hot Fuzz, but I did find it weaker than Shaun. There were enough gags and bizarre characters to keep me entertained, but I felt the big shoot out at the end dragged on too long. Even so it was far funnier than anything I have seen out of the US for a long time.

If theres one thing thats certain, if a film gets praised theres always someone to say its awful. It must be just coincidental, but these poorly written, badly acted, terrible films seem to be enjoyed by quite a few ;)

Nicely said. The thing I loved about Hot Fuzz (And Shaun of the Dead) is the subtlty of the jokes...they aren't "in your face" like, for example, Austin Powers (which I love), but they're very subtle...reminds me a bit of Disney films like Finding Nemo and Toy Story - in that even though they're kids films, there are some hilarious subtle jokes that adults will find funny.
I for one thought Hot Fuzz was hilarious, on par with Shaun of the Dead. I think Pegg & Frost work really well together and thought the script was brilliant.

Really liked Hot Fizz, thought it was great with some nice cross film jokes...
Did however prefer Shaun of The Dead.
I thought that HF was a good all round british film. Fun, enjoyable and in places mildly bizare.
However King Kong. Utter *****.
Along with Lord of the Rings, can't stand them.
I think the HF review placed on here can be applied to Peter Jackson
I thought Cosmo Landseman's review in The Sunday Times summed it up rather well : "'Whereas Shaun of the Dead was a small, low budget gem, Hot Fuzz is the kind of over-indulgent, underwritten work that comes when your first film is a hit and you are handed the keys to the cinematic sweet shop"
Brain Dead was brilliant, Bad Taste was great and The Frightners was in places reasonable but each time the budget is upped the films get worse.

Well, that's the first time I've heard anyone say - or sort of say - that LOTR is "underwritten". Jackson had to chop out whole chunks of Tolkien's story to wedge in a 9 hour + movie, so which scenes did you feel were thin, script-wise ?

Was that to me?
Never said they were "badly or underwritten" just hated them.
( I see why you say it now. I was more using the previous review of SotD and HF to illistrate the cool low budget aspect to Hollywood throwing money at you to make something else)
I never even bothered with the last one.
I hated the first (and I remeber really looking forward to it)
Wasn't going to see the 2nd but due to circumstance the mates I went with that day did and so I thought it might get better. And have avoided them ever since.
I just hated everything about them.
Story,
CGI (another reason to hate KK)
Length
(Granted the scenery was amazing but thats due to NZ)

I've just finished re-cutting Kong down to a much more managable length, via computer. I've gotten it down to 1hr 56mins. I had to put some stuff back in, as it IS called King Kong after all.
The turgid set up piece, setting us up in the period of the film... GONE. I think people are intelligent enough to figure out WHEN the actual film is set. Naomi 'Hamster Cheeks) Watt's also disappears from the front of the film. It's obstensibly Carl Denham's story, with us starting in the cutting room with him and the suits.
I hacked out that horrible CG dinosaur running sequence, as well as as much Jamie Bell as possible. Oh, and no stupid ice skating sequence either. I'd have cut out everything that happens at the top of the Empire State Building if I could've. He'd have never reached the top, having been gunned down as he made his ascent. Ya hear that Jackson? You hack!!
I might tackle Van Helsing next. He might actually be able to hit something with the first shot...

Why do you think it's free... They can't shift the buggers.
First of all, the version of King Kong that was included with the HD-DVD drive is different (in packaging terms) from the retail version (it has a thinner case), so your accusation that they "can't shift the buggers" is somewhat inaccurate.
Secondly, I would imagine that its inclusion was more related to the deal that Jackson struck with Microsoft Game Studios, which was announced at the same time as the release date and price of the HD-DVD drive were confirmed by Microsoft.
King Kong and (getting the thread back on topic) Hot Fuzz are excellent films IMO. Bad Boys II, on the other hand, is (again, IMO) cack.

I loved it. It was silly indulgent fun. It wasn't big. It wasn't particularly clever. It had an old woman getting kicked in the face.
What more do you want? :)
Saw Kong twice at the cinema, three times on DVD and once on HD-DVD.
I guess you can say I like it... Stampede scene, ice skating scene, empire state building scene and ALL :smashin:
Oh and completed the 360 game, but only once

I also liked the film and watched it 4 times so far on SD DVD. The first part of the film does not drag like a lot of people said. It builds up the story and gives why they are on the island. You can't just start at the island like some people seem to have wanted.
I haven't seen Hot Fuzz as I don't go to the cinema anymore but will get the DVD when it comes out. SOTD is one of the most funniest films I have seen so, I am looking forward to HF.

I went to see hot fuzz on Tuesday. The first hour was ok, pretty decent story trotting along nicely then the last 20-30 mins just got too daft and spoilt it for me. I laughed out loud twice like the others in the cinema, as a comedy it didnt cut the mustard for me.
