Ok I have pretty much decided on moving over to a Mac and am looking at the top Macbook or lower end Macbook pro but have not made a decisions in which one yet! Anyway I have heard the leopard OS is planned to come out in the spring (could be 3 more months). Also I heard that all the Macs are going to get an update soon, is this true? Now I am not very familiar with Macs but whenever an update happens are they drastic like new processors etc, or would the cosmetics just get a update?
Does anyone know what updates are planned and when, would it be worth waiting for?
Thanks
No - 'all' macs will not get an update.
The Mini is the only one using the 'old' core duo chip - and so people are half expecting/hoping for an upgrade to Core 2 Duo.
The most the iMac, Macbooks and Pro are likely to get is speedbumps IMO. The Macbook Pro might be the next updated machine in the line but nobody knows.
Personally I'm waiting for Leopard before I get a new machine - but I can 'afford' to wait.

I think Leopard is worth waiting for. My view is that Macbooks and iMacs will be updated in the same time frame (to use Intel's Santa Rosa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrino#Santa_Rosa_platform_.282007.29)). It's possible that something else will be added to the hardware to match the "secret" features of Leopard - whatever they are - in the same way that the web cams everywhere was a surprise when it happened. What we hope for is "multitouch everywhere", perhaps meaning larger trackpads for macbook with much enhanced multifinger gestures like iPhone, and perhaps touch screens on some machines too. But there is no real evidence of this yet - it just makes sense.

Yeah I will defiantly be waiting for leopard, (sorry I didn’t make that clear in my OP) but after leopard has came out is it worth waiting for the a Macbook update, I have read (cant remember where) that is will be late June the earliest!
Would the updated Mac been more expensive at first or are they the same price all the time (Sorry I having never be interested in getting a Mac till now so don’t really know any of this stuff)

Apple generally holds price points and increases specs. Average selling price for Macs has actually gone up slightly in the past year; the PC makers ASP's have gone down. Apple is unlikely to be first to announce Santa Rosa, but is likely to switch the whole product line over very quickly, unlike PC makers who try to cover every price point, and actually sell relatively few of the latest spec machines.
From a marketing point of view, you may wait several months for a Macbook update because a huge market for Apple is Macbooks for students starting College; last year they could get a free iPod nano with a Macbook, but the Macbook was then updated after that short buying season.
The above is an opinion; it may be wrong.
I don't see a switch to Santa Rosa until Q3 at least. That's pure opinion though.
I'd hoped to see Leopard at the end of March...but the latest seed is said to be far from ready for a release.
I think that Mini's will be updated very close (before, during or after  ) the leopard annoucement so I think I'll wait.
I don't see Macbooks getting anything other than a speedbump till Santa rosa

Specualtion seems to be about a coloured iMac - i.e. a black surround with slight updates coming very soon...

MacWorld: Apple product announcements for March? (http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?RSS&newsID=17420)
.. sounds more like a mid-life booster for some models. Video playback for nano's?

If that's the case then i can wait 3 weeks or so before i see about gettin my Mac. Even if it's a minor improvement, i's worth a 3 week wait
I have been reading that HSDPA will be included with santa rosa, but have also come across some stories that it has been dropped, can anyone confirm that it will not be a feature in santa rosa?

HSDPA dropped in mid-Feb, it would appear. Maybe Nokia didn't like the idea of giving it to Apple. Or maybe Apple has taken it on as an exclusive from Nokia (I don't think so).

I'm getting quite excited about getting my mac.
Everywhere i read, there are reports of something major being announced in the next couple of weeks, whether it being Leopard being launched or a new range of Macs.
I certainly believe something is going to be announced as Apple have been very quiet for quite a while.
Whatever it is, i think it will be BIG.
I just need to wait a little longer and my patience will be rewarded

I heard this aswell. Probably on Mac Rumours.
I'm hoping they bring more new macs in black out as black seem to the colour scheme for most AV stuff these days.

A Macbook Mini according to rumours. But of you add all the rumours up, the next mac will be....
A Solid State mini tower (user upgradeable) 8 core Blu-Ray HDDVD with H264 encode/decoder chip with OLED display

Be interesting to see what off the rumours are accurate.

Apple lets slip on 8-core Mac Pro
8:19AM, Tuesday 13th March 2007
Apple's UK store briefly published details of an 8-core Mac Pro. 'Now quad-core or 8-core processing power.
Configure yours today,' the store urged anyone searching on the term Mac.
The listing has now been removed, but screen grabs are in wide circulation online.
This is not the first time one of Apple's online stores has let slip about products on the horizon. iWeb was first announced on
Apple's South African site, shortly before its official unveiling at Steve Jobs' keynote address.
However, a product leak doesn't always indicate an imminent release. Amazon published details of single
user and family packs of both iWork 07 and iLife 07 in early January. These were quickly removed from the store, and
the products themselves have still not yet appeared.

You might want to look at this speculative tidbit of information:

Of course Solid State drives are very expensive at the moment so, if Apple do release a subnotebook based on this technology, it won't be coming out anytime soon.

I don't think you'll see a solid state drive in any Macbook or Macbook Pro any time soon (although you could put one in yourself). If it happens in the near future, IMO it would be on a small and quite expensive tablet style device, half way between Macbook and iPod in size and functionality. But even that could be a year away if ti ever happens.

I'm actually quite hopeful TBH.....I don't think solid state drives are too far away at all.
- maybe not as standard spec kit, but certainly as an option?
What with Sandisk having just acquired M-systems, I actually think we'll be seeing 60GB FDD in top-end laptops before the year is out.....
Based on everything else i've seen (marketing wise) from Apple, I'd be amazed if they weren't leading the pack rather than following ?
I was running an M-systems drive in a Dell for a little while last year, the difference you get in battery life is shocking!
I was just really hoping somebody here had some inside info, I've got a mate at Samsung who says it'll be Q3 for them. :)

Not sure if this has been recently posted but the new Macbooks are rumoured to be here soon, maybe even a announcement next week.
They are rumoured to being coming with new LED screens along with Santa Rosa, which could double the battery life, so I have been told.
I hope these rumours are true as ever since a couple of months back when deciding on get a Mac the money has just been burning a hole in my pocket!

If you take a look at the appleinsider.com site they suggest that the MBPro will be getting LED and Santa Rosa first not the MB ...

Macbook Pro needs to be updated soon, but Macbook will probably follow in Sept/Oct after the "Dads and Grads" season where Apple offers special deals aimed at new university students (last year, free iPod with Macbook). All current Macbook Pro models are currently available online as "refurbs", which suggests something definitely by June 11th (http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/events/). Or next Tuesday at the earliest, although "ready to ship: 24hrs" on current Pro's suggests maybe not this Tuesday.

I wonder if the new range of Mac Book/Mac Book Pro's will support 4GB of memory?

I think so. That was a restriction of the old Intel glue logic which isn't present in Santa Rosa.
Who needs 4 GB? The first computer I used had one ten-thousandth of that amount of RAM and supported 64 simultaneous online users!

I was only thinking of future proof and at least I would be able to upgrade in the future if I wanted too and its nice to have the option there maybe in 2 years when 2GB of ram is standard.
One question I would like to ask I never have had a desktop pc in my room due to not having another space for a full blown pc so I need a laptop as a desktop replacement if possible now do you think the 15" MBP wouls be big enough screen wise as I have thought about the 17" but feel it may be too big if I went on holiday or something like that and also the price is over my budget really for the 17".
I am really hoping I can hold out until the new range come out, surely we should hear something from Apple in the next month or so?
