I am thinking of replacing my bulky Digital 8 with something more compact and wondered which format would work well and what features would be most desirable?Thanks

i think Mini DVs are still the best!

but i like the idea of all the new SD ones. I think i will be getting a HD SD camera in the next year, probably the new canon.

^^if you mean the 1080p canon, it sounds great!

Obviously HD is the way to go.

we've got the Sony HDR-HC3 and the old HDR-FX1, both are great... but takes quite long to capture onto our machines (G5).

I highly recommended Sony HDR-HC3 it's compact and the quality is amazing.

I have to buy a new one for a project in the states and I'm looking at the new Sony models... HDR-UX7 / HDR-HC7 in particular.

i'm going to pick one up for my parents when i'm over there next month.

there is no PAL/NTSC when it comes to HD... only downfall would be recording in SD. (i think unless someone has something wiser to tell me)
