5.1 speakers upgrade

Hello folks, i'm new so i'm pretty sure you've heard this many times before but.....recommend me some 5.1's.

I used to have the following speakers: Creative GigaWorks S750

Which we connected to the following decoder: Creative Decoder DDTS-100

Unfortunately the subwoofer blew one day after christmas and they can't repair it, so time to upgrade me thinks, no I don't want an avreceiver as I want to be able to connect the new speakers to the same decoder.

I think I have a budget of somewhere between 600-700 pounds

Re: 5.1 speakers upgrade

Seems you had the best setup for that decoder

I can't see how you would improve on it, to be honest.

Bin the decoder and start again would be my advice.

But as you've said, you don't want a receiver

like I said i'm new, would i not be able to connect new speakers to that decoder then? we're they specifically designed just for the creatives. I want some nice speakers hence my budget but don't really want to spend much extra on top of that

Re: 5.1 speakers upgrade

From what I can tell there's no amp in the decoder; it was built into the sub, so you can't connect speakers to it.

You're much better off getting a new AV amp which can be properly upgraded in the future.

I reckon with a £300 (say Sony STRDA1200) amp and £400 (say MS Premier Plus) speakers you'll be blown away and you'll just get it within budget.

As above

Bin the decoder, get a receiver and the world's your lobster

Re: 5.1 speakers upgrade

check the forum classifieds and power buys for bargains for £700 you will get far far far better sound than you got from the creative system (there are systems that could use that decoder but your looking at £700 per speaker)
