Bought Vista Home Premium upgrade, but no 64bit?

I bought the Home Premium Upgrade, assumed it had both the 32bit/64 bit on the same disc, but I opened it and says in the dvd "32 bit only", I mean it does not even say it on the front of the box, but on the bottom, in small writing, , there havign a laugh?, have to shell out £7 or so do get the 64 bit DVD?, how do they get away for this?, at least offer it as a download..

Are you sure you want 64-bit? It won't allow 16-bit software. You might not think you have any but you'd be suprised.

32 & 64 bit media only come together when purchasing Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. Otherwise you have to send off for the x64 bit counterpart.

You may have a driver for a sound card or printer or scanner or camera etc etc.

If you get hold of a copy of the 64-bit retail DVD (borrow, download etc.) your key should work fine.

Really? Didn't know that. So the key is for the base version (e.g. Home Premium) and does not lock you down to 32 or 64 bit? I had assumed yhat the key would be locked to the specific version.

So would take work with an OEM version key too do you think, or would that be locked to the purchased processor option? I want to install 64-bit with my new processor, but then if I find too much doesn't work with it I'll want to drop back down to 32-bit for the time being. I don't mind buying software from MS, but I'm darned if I'm going to pay them twice for the same thing just because their 64-bit one isn't as downward-compatible as it should be.

The key is what determines what version (Home, Premium, Ultimate) you 'unlock'. That's why if you don't put in a key at install you can try any version for 30+ days. However, AFAIK you can install either the 32- or 64-bit version.

No, I don't think you can mix keys for OEM and retail versions.

Did not want to take the risk, ended buying one from MS for £7, wonder if they will be cheap and just brun a regualr DVD-R instead of a pressed disk...
