The house I am moving to already has an NTL cable broadband line fitted (guy before me had NTL broadband) and I intend to get VirginMedia's BB service when I move in...
1) Deffo don't need a phone line with this do you? Cos the whole point of getting BB from VirginMedia is so I can bin BT as I haven't used my house phone for years and years....
2) Is it as simple as phoning em up, and telling them to send me a modem, and turn my already installed line on? Or do I *have* to have an "engineer" come over and sort it all out ("install") it for me? Are they quick to do this, or do I have to wait days and days and days?
I *reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally* don't wanna be without internet for more than a couple days if I can help it! Moving ito a gaff on my own, will need internet to while away the hours cos I'll be too skint to go anywhere!!!!!!

They are pretty quick.
3 working days has been my experience and I have no doubt you could gee them up if you needed too.
I'd just arrange now for the day you move in and you're sorted.
I don't believe you have to have a phone line now, but I'm not 100% sure.

1. VM offer 2 types of bb now adsl and cable, so you want the cable one which means you will not need a phone line.
2. It is simple to phone them up and get it sorted but I suggest you don't you are prob thinking why not well here's the answers.
#online do offers so you end up getting a better deal
#you can pick the date you want the install
# you get to read all the small print and terms so you know what your getting
# the phone people do tend to mix things up or not explain things this way you know you can def get cable one and you have ordered the right one
# setup card payment secure and can pay install charge £25 straight away speeds things up.

Thanks TripleA - the only thing I am really querying is that I don't need to take out a cable phone line to take out cable braodband. I know technically I don't NEED it, due to cable broadband being an independant line, unlike ADSL that uses a BT phone line, but what I am getting at is will Virgin insist I subscribe to their phone service if I want cable BB?

Hi Matt. No you don't have to have their telephone service. I only have broadband with them, they don't insist that you have to take the phone service with them.

Alot of people are under the false view that you need a phoneline in order to have cable internet from Virginmedia...(you only need a phoneline for locations where Virginmedia doesnt have the cable network)
If only NTL/ Virginmedia made that bit clear, they would have soooo many more customers. I thought Richard Branson wouldve cleared that up by now. Guess hes busy wandering around Heathrow airport...with a hot stewardess ;) thats where I saw him the other day.
@ Richard Branson you owe me FREE internet now... for life.

i have the broadband but no phone at all apart from my mobile. they've just recently reduced the prices a bit so for new customers so its £10 for 2mb, £17 for 4mb and £29 for the 10mb/20mb. you get good deals if you want packages, but these new prices are pretty good, especially if you don't need to spend £11 on a phone line. its £25 installation, but i think if you order online you get £10 off the order
i think virgin want people to take the phone which is why they don't make it so clear. almost every month i get something in the post asking me to get the phone for an extra few quid
