First off, it's nice to see an Apple/Mac forum here. I've been a Mac user since 2001, starting with an iMac G3 600 MHz. I now also have a PowerBook G4 15" 1.67 GHz HR and I bought my GF an iBook G4 14" 1.42 GHz to replace the aging iMac G3 333 MHz she had been using (borrowed from her brother and getting too slow).

What are the views of forum members about recommending forums elsewhere? I'm in a few at Yahoo Groups, and happen to be a moderator on 2 of them.

I use mac-forums, if you need anyting really technical its there, most stuff has already been covered in great detail so a quick search will find you anything almost. Onyl downside is its american but it is used by people worldwide, reason i dont like this is cus everyone talks in USD.

I meant the etiquette of me, or anyone else, recommending other forums. As I said, I'm in a few at Yahoo which I can recommend if that's OK.

I second mac-forums, they have a switcher hangout for newbbies and as much depth in software/hardware help as you will ever need....but it's US basis can be off putting but they are very helpful especially in the switcher hangout give it look:smashin:

I'm pretty sure Stuart posted a thread somewhere about linking to external sites and competing forums. The general gist was he was against it, as it steered people away from the AVForums (and its advertisers), towards other forums.

My recomendation would be, if you have found the answer on another forum, cut and paste it here, that way everyone here can find it in a search, and those of us that just browse in and out of random threads can benefit without linking through to loads of external sites). If you haven't seen the answer, and nobody here has chipped in with a suggestion, then I can't see how anybody can complain about referring to another forum. Hopefully Stuart will realise that this is a new area of the AVForums, and until it's a little more established, we may need to venture out elsewhere. May I also suggest, if you're posting on another forum, you might want to link back or refer back to your original question here.

Obviously, (until he gets a record deal ;) ) the forums is Stuarts source of income, so I can understand his motives, but at the end of the day, we're here to share information and help each other, and sometimes that means a link to another site. Can't imagine Stuart blocking links to best deals on other web sites if they're not advertisers, so why should this be any different.

Just my 2c.

Thanks. That is just the sort of answer I wanted. It all makes sense, and I shall spread the word about this forum in my Mac Yahoo groups.

I'd recommend macrumours.com. Good place which I always use.
