DV137 HDMI Sound Issues - Please Help!!!

I recently bought the DV137 and have it connected to a Sony KDL40X2000 tv. I do not have a surround amp at the moment and so wish to listen to the sound through the TV's speakers.

I have Sky and the sound is fine through that but when I try to watch a DVD through HDMI the sound is distorted and cuts out. It sounds awful and I have no idea why. I have tried the changing the settings on the set-up menu but still nothing works. I have even tried 2 RCA cabels from the DV137 into the back of the telly but I don't get any sound then at all. I don't think it is the TV but how can I isolate the problem? Has anyone any ideas or have they eperienced this before?

I'm sure the telly can decode audio from the HDMI?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

go in to the audio menu and select digital audio output and then select stereo p.c.m. the sound should be fine then.
there seems to be a problem with the audio if you set the hdmi resolution to 1080p.

Thanks. Turns out there is an issue with the 1080p setting. How bad is that? I bought because it could upscale to 1080p and there is an issue. Tut Tut Arcam, poor Quality control from your engineering team.

Which firmware version is installed? (shown during startup, otherwise press 4792 when no disc is inserted).

IIRC, the 1080p issue has been resolved in fw 4.03? (I'm using HDMI to feed 720p to my projector, so I have no direct experience with audio over HDMI or 1080p output ).
