Switching between DD and DTS tracks while playing a DVD

Hi,

I've recently bought the Denon 2930 DVD player, which has DD and DTS decoders. This is the first time I've had the ability to play DTS tracks, so I've been trying to compare them against the DD tracks on those DVDs in my collection that have a DTS track.

I've noticed something strange. On some DVDs (e.g. 'Seven'), the player allows me to switch instantly between DD and DTS while the disc is playing. On other DVDs (e.g. 'Mulholland Dr.'), it prohibits this. If I hit the Audio button and then attempt to select the other track, a "no-entry" sign is displayed. I have to go back to the menu to select a different track and then resume playback of the film.

Can anyone explain why different DVDs behave in these different ways? Is it something to do with how the tracks are encoded on the discs?

Thanks in anticipation.

As far as I know it's the encoding. In the same way that you get forced to watch the trailers on some discs whereas others can be skipped past.
