Still on analogue- want to upgrade

Hello all,

I've been reading this forum for a couple of hours and think its about time to upgrade my analogue ntl to digital!!

Just to confirm-

1.You cannot receive freeview through the digital set top box virgin will give me when I upgrade?

2.Also for an upgrade does an engineer need to come round ?- or is it a case of just getting ordering digital box as the digital and cable signal is fed through the same cable. Or does the engineer come round to set up the V+.(I have to look into all the offers virgin have at the moment, but already have some good ideas from the 'retentions' discusions!)

3.I have the old cable box a General Instruments Cft-2100. Now this is not the original box- an old housemate left it here and it picks up 'extra' channels-(apparently he got it from the installers!!!!). Do virgin need this box back? i.e will the engineer ask for the old box when he comes with the new digi box (if he comes and has to do some installation).

Thanks people

Re: Still on analogue- want to upgrade

1) check the channel line-up. not sure if all Freeview channels are on the cable.
2) yes you need an engineer.
3) The box - sounds dodgy to me. The engineer will expect to pick up an old analogue box but was that model ever issued ? if it is a pirate box and you have been getting free channels your only get out is that it was left by previous occupant. Still not a position I would like to be in. But what choice do you have, I suppose NTL will be glad its gone and won't be too fussed on back charges.
Depends on the engineer I suppose so make him tea (and biscuits) and have telly and various boxes pulled out and ready for him. make a note of your connection scheme/wiring between TV,DVD/VCR/stuff before you disconnect stuff.

Make sure you get an analogue bypass fitted on install - get them to put it on install notes when you do your deal.

Doh! Should have checked the channel line up!! Thanks for pointing that out Steve.
As for the box- I'll try and see if my housemate has the normal one as I'm sure he got it a week or so after getting cable! Anyway thanks for the tip on the analogue bypass!
