Re: The West Wing - The Complete Series Collection

Hi,

If mean the uk release, I saw an image somewhere which just had the big box with all the boxes from the previous releases stuffed inside. I looked for the image again but couldn't find it.

Looks like we have been stiffed again like the alias box set.

Hope that helps.

Exclamation Re: The West Wing - The Complete Series Collection

Hi,

The UK boxed set, is purely Seasons 1-7 of the series, in a bigger outer box. This can be seen here! There are no new extras, other than those originally included on the seasonal boxed-sets as released before by Warner Bros UK.

In the USA, they've got this, in which all 7 Seasons have been re-packaged, re-housed into special sleeves, that look like leeves in a manilla wallet. On top of this, all the discs are single-sided, dual-layered DVD 9's, and there are lots of new extras including new audio commentaries, DVD-Rom material (scripts, etc), new booklets about the show, its creation/production, plus other written material, and new behind-the-scenes material too, not previously seen on any other release of the show! Plus, this set, costs only about £96 (at current $-to-£ exchange rates), to import, in comparison with about £75 for the inferior UK set.

As others have said, it looks like Warner Bros have stiffed UK "West Wing" fans royally once more!

Re: The West Wing - The Complete Series Collection

Thanks for the info.

Where would be the best place to get the US set imported from (And would I get hit with duty charges? If so do you know how much).

Also anyone know anyway of making the XBOX 360 play R1 DVD's?

Thanks

I imported this set and it arrived just after Xmas. There were very few places listing it at the time - good old MovieTyme didn't even have it listed as it was too expensive for them to ship over !

Anyhow, I eventually got it from Barnes & Noble because there was a 25%-off voucher floating around, so I got it for £94 all in

There are a few options now:

AxelMusic (£163)
http://www.axelmusic.com/productDetails/012569820005

Barnes & Noble (£131)
http://video.barnesandnoble.com/sear...69820005&itm=5

And confusingly, 2 options at cd-wow

£99.91
http://www6.cd-wow.com/detail_result...t_code=1112351

£125.94
http://www6.cd-wow.com/detail_result...t_code=1138100

I'd call wow and ask about the 99 quid one - no-one else comes near that price.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I've never ordered from amazon.com, but from what I've read here on AVForums, you're almost certain to get hit my customs.

Can anyone who has got the US version of the box set please tell me what state the picture on the season 3 discs are in?

I just bought the UK version of the seven-season box set and the season 3 ones are just as bad as the standalone season 3 set - ie they've letterboxed the 4:3 picture and it looks bloody awful. I'm pretty sure that when they were broadcast they were full-frame 4:3? It's a pretty shoddy way to treat those of us who are such fans we buy the box set.

If the US one is better the UK one is going back to Amazon...

Ta!

Seasons 2-7 in the US boxset are anamorphic widescreen. It is also housed in a slick box. All in all highly recommended

Thanks Paul. Sounds better than the mess that is, unfortunately, the UK edition. I'll get the US one. (Recommendations from where welcome everyone! )

(PS. I'm not late to the West Wing party - it's my favourite show ever - I've just been waiting for the box set to fall in price. £100 new didn't seem too bad, but I wouldn't have paid a tenner to see it like this.)

Re: The West Wing - The Complete Series Collection

Got mine from CDWOW. It is currently £97 (~£91 with quidco) and no risk of customs. Be warned it took a couple of weeks to come though but if you are happy to wait I think its the cheapest price.

Re: The West Wing - The Complete Series Collection

Great, thanks Paul, sounds just like what I want.

I've never watched a R1 DVD (actually I must have done but I can't remember doing so) but are there any issues with them being 60Hz and our TVs being 50Hz? Any judder or PQ issues?

Edit: Can't find it at CDWOW
