How are these hacks found?

Are these handset hacks found using trial and error or are they supplied by the maker.

I ask because I wish to see if it's possible to remove the region lock on my brothers Isymphony M2. I've checked a few sites with no luck, so now I might try to find out if I can find a hack on my own.

Any tips?

I started a player specific thread here, no replies so either no hack or it's a rare player.
