Thumbs down So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

Firstly I don't want a dish on my recently restored Edwardian house.

Secondly, if I was to go with Sky, my house is positioned such, it looks like the dish will have to go to the back of the house with a cable coming round the front

Thirdly, I just got talk talk (and it has been superb so far).

So with the above points in mind, I went to see what Virgin can offer and its exactly the same, if I want more channels (XL)I have to have a Virgin phone line, which I don't want.

Why do they want to tie you in with a phone line, they've lost a customer already , but I hate being tied into a service which I don't need or want, my reasoning on going with talk talk is that with the sky package I wanted, the overall sky and talk talk package was going to be cheaper than Sky with tv and phone and BB, and definatley cheaper than NTL with tv/phone/bb.

Looks like a Sky dish then for me.

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

Totally agree.
I have a moby and so does the missus.
We both get 300 free mins a month.

We're paying £11 a month rental for TW and £20 a year in phone calls.
It's just another British rip off , IMO.

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

Yeh, I've been around and around their new website, and I still can't find a way of keeping my 10Meg broadband and just adding the V+ box, without taking their unwanted phone service as well - another loss to them, unless someone tells me different..
Virginmedia - are you reading this ?

If you press the joining button it allows you to choose TV, 10meg broadband and no phone. The stupid thing then is that you seem to only be able to add the V+ STB as an additional STB.

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

Do you have to have a phone line with them if you jut want Broadband? Cos I was going to get NTL purely cos you can have BB and no phone, so I could ditch BT aswell - so I hope Virgin aren't going to insist I have a phone line just to have BB!!!!!

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

EDIT - their site says I can have "2 for £20 - 2mb BB and TV (L)" - says nothing about a phone line?

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

I already have 10meg Internet from Virgin (was ntl) and today ordered the V+ box on the XL package. Didn't go for the Sky Sports or Sky Movies as I never watch Sports, and can pay for the Movies via VOD when I want to watch them (which is not very often).

I was already paying 35.00 a month for the Internet

The TV cost me an extra 21.00 a month, and I did not have to take the phone line.

Just need to phone up sky and cancel my Sky+ service, but wil wait until V+ is installed and running first.

BTW It seems Sky are trying their hardest to keep you as a customer when you call up to cancel, why not ask them if they can give you SKY HD without having to pay 300 for the Sky HD box, as you dont have to pay anything to the V+ HD Box - bye bye Sky

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

I want the XL tv service and sky sports but I have to have the phone line as well, which I do not want! I can have other tv packages without the phone line but then Sky sports gets more expensive!

Life used to be so much easier not so long ago...

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

This needs clarification by Virginmedia. There is a real need for more flexibility in their packages to allow people to get the services they want, without the excess baggage -which they don't want.
Virgin, please note - you are missing something here, and potentially losing customers. Could we have more clarity please..

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

I rang up Virgin yesterday and they told me I can have the package without the phoneline for £45! a SAVING OF £2! Come on Virgin, don't make me put up a Sky dish.

Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

No you dont have to have a phone line from virgin.
I called them today to ask the very same question as i'm too used to the "oh you do need to have our other service at X amount extra per month" tactic.
Also asked how much it would be for me to switch to the 2 for £20 deal from my current 4mb bb.
The nice lady told me it would be £27 for 4mb bb and the size L tv package which is only £2 more than i used to pay ntl for my BB.
Gonna get that in writing and then i'll order it.

Question Re: So you have to have a phone line with Vigin?

Got the TV XL + Sky Sports alone with no phone straight away just now.
At the moment just the bog standard STB with standard fee of 37 quid.
Installation not for a month cos have to run contract close with Sky.

Guess I could close and haggle over next month to get price down, do you think? If so which number is best to call? I'm wanting V+ without the tenner a month extra and a reduction to about 34 quid for the package? What you think: possible?

Also, how long is cooling off period after installation to cancel? Anyone know?

Got TV XL + Full Sports. Plus V+ Box in Living Room and V Box in Bedroom.

All for £37 a month!

Would be £57 month (6 mix + Sports, with Multi room and HD sub) and £299 HD Box with Sky.

Only draw back is lack of HD channels, but VOD is a plus for me.

Said he'd give me VIP plus multi for £72 pm in November, when my BT BB contract ends.

Good deal? or could I get more?
Doesn't look as though you need the phone line.
