AVR3805 - Sound Problems

Hi,

I had my 3805 bi-amped quite a while back and didn't really pay attention when it was done. Anyway, everything has been fine until today when I have obviously pressed something I shouldnt have on the remote, and now I am only getting half the sound (treble) out of the front speakers. In effect no base is coming through. The base is driven by the main front outputs whilst the treble is driven by either zone 2 or 3 (not sure which). I am sure there is a simple fix, but having pored over the manual and trawled through the forum I am still none the wiser. Can anyone help me

Marcus

Re: AVR3805 - Sound Problems

Sounds as though you have accidentally switched the power off to your main zone.

On your handset, and making sure you are controlling the Main zone (i.e. Zone 2 or Zone 3 button has not been pressed). Just above the AMP/TUNER button are the SOURCE OFF and SOURCE ON buttons. Press the SOURCE ON and see if that works.

Hi Marcus, I am sure Malice has nailed it, but here is the link for a step-by-step setup. My only reservation is that you say you have your base on your main speaker posts, so this would effect the treble, rather than the base. But as you say, it was a long time ago, so maybe your memory is playing tricks.

Also, do you get any speaker noise from your setup? I had to abandom mine as it was driving me mad. Some amps seem more prone to it than others for some unknown reason.

Re: AVR3805 - Sound Problems

Graham, interesting that Marcus uses Zone 2 (or 3) to drive the tweeter and not the bass. It is a perfectly good way of implementing biamping. Perhaps the crossover and filter for the tweeters in the speaker will remove the "hum" and the main driver will be OK off the main amp. Dunno, maybe worth a swap over to see?

FWIW I tried this and the hum remained though with a slightly higher & more annoying pitch

Thanks Malice and Matt - saves me hauling the thing out again! - as I would HAVE to know if it worked.

An even more annoying hum would definitely be worse.
