Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
I've just come across the soon-to-be released SE W880i and it looks very lush. The form factor is especially appealing and even manages to include 3G, 2MP camera and Walkman 2.0 functionality.
On the downsides, the keypad doesn't seem the greatest and there is still no 3.5mm jack for normal headphones (I still can't understand this given it's meant to be a Walkman phone! )
However, apart from that it looks like a good all rounder and should start to appear in shops at the end of the month!

Re: Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
Couple of reviews already on line about the W880i
http://www.mobile-review.com/review/...-w880-en.shtml
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsso...review-127.php
I dont know but IMHO apart from the super slimline looks its really no different to the W810i or W850i spec wise , still no autofocus with the camera and as Tejstar has already said no 3.5mm which to my mind is bordering on criminal being a "walkman".
I suppose i like the black version but is it really an upgrade over anything ?? if you like the looks then i suppose it is but i dont think i'll be rushing out for one !!
Rumour is it'll be £299 sim free for that money theres a whole load of phones that perform much better than this. Rumour also has it that the latest announcement frrom Sony Ericsson was the lower end phones and theres more to come. Lets hope they raise the bar with the higher end phones although again IMHO Walkman 2.0 is as good as it gets for music playing on music enabled phones. The new Nokia music editions come very close and for some peoples ears maybe actually better as there aint that overkill bass that Sony seem to produce.

Re: Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
I agree kevH - it doesn't offer anything new over current phones. However, I'm reverting back to simpliitiy. I find that there are a lot of functions that I don't use on a mobily. This looks like a good stop-gap until the end of the year when there'll be better phones out. The lack of autofocus and flash is a concern for me though as I do actually use the camera on my K800i!

It seems a perfectly natural thing to do to me, why cut the throat of your accessory market, the add on remotes which aren't that costly provide the jack socket.

Re: Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
yes I agree it's of nothing but benefit for Sony. an Inconvinience for the end user though.
think I'll stick with the phone i have now that has a 3.5mm jack on both the bundled remote and the phone itself

Re: Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
Even with a 3.5mm jack it wouldnt really do that much harm to Sony as they are one of the largest suppliers of headphones/ in ears etc , you only have to look in HMV Dixons Currys et al the vast majority are Sony's.

Re: Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
Well if Nokia can do it that I don't see why SE can't. These Walkman phones will not truly takeoff until you provide the flexibility to the end consumer. After buying such a good looking phone as the W880i the last thing you want to do is add an adaptor just to listen to music on your own headphones!

Re: Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
Nokia N91 4gb.
Excellent MP3 player and Excellent phone as well, the first phone i've found that truly works as well as a standalone MP3 player. (and i tried many )
Ignore anything you read about HDU/software problems. all of these are resolved by the recent firmware updates (well mine has been faultless anyway)
new 8gb version is out anyday now as well

Re: Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
If i'm not mistaken all the new nokia music edition have the 3.5mm jacks as well. I just cant think what Sony are thinking to be honest , they call the Walkman series dedicated music phones and omit the jack ????? I know they have the phones with the adaptor and thats ok if you wanna trail one hundred feet of cable

Re: Sony Ericsson W880i - Discussion Thread
i won one of these phones last week and must say its superb. so light and slim. the menus are really quick too.
i bought some se bluetooth headphones to listen to music and receive calls on the move and it does sound fab.
really pleased with the phone and everyone who has played with it were really impressed too.
will be a really popular phone when released.
