Re: New DVDO/Achorbay website
Its still "pants" without a software update....
Do they think that everyone will forget about the poor s/w support if they have a "pretty" website.

Re: New DVDO/Achorbay website
What software update is that? Are you complaining about how long the 1.01 release has been in beta, or is there something new you're expecting?

Expecting what I paid for.... Full release software including PReP and bug fixes and yes, complaining about how long 1.01 has been in Beta.

Re: New DVDO/Achorbay website
Oh ok.
Seems to me that a lot of the world is moving to semi-permanent beta-mode, an innovation that the open source world invented. Doesn't quite work when you can't save your settings easily on the vp50 to make upgrading painless.
But I think the beta is pretty solid, been using it since it came out & apart from the occassional weird menu slowdown had no other problems.

Thats fine for open source as its (99.9% of time) free... but we've paid a lot for the VP50's and would expect atleast some kind of feedback from DVDO as to whats going on... unless of course they don't know themselves.
In reality maybe we've been spoilt with the regularity of updates for previous generations and DVDO are re-aligning our expectations. Or a company which is reacting to market forces and restructuring to take advantage.
I would personally suspect the VP50 was rushed to market, so they could concentrate on the integration chips. I also feel there possible won't be an update of the VP50's for quite sometime, be it firmware or hardware.

Have you had any problems with the Test patterns.... Mine seem to appear almost randomly, halfway up/down the screen, off left or right, but rarely in the correct place.

Although you can never be sure, Josh posted on, as Choddo likes to know it, the "other place" that we can expect a f/w update for the VP50 in mid-end March. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&&#post9759494. Since we haven't heard anything from Josh for quite a while, it would seem unlikely he'd come back onto the forums to tell us something if it wasn't at least what they currently anticipate.

Re: New DVDO/Achorbay website
Cheers for that...
Suggestion from Josh seems to indicate 1.01 will become "release" sometime before the end of March then followed by 1.02 Beta.
Maybe then 1.03 with VRS noise reduction sometime after that... Mid year perhaps...
Sounds promising...

I can bet that the VP60 or whatever they will call it will be out in September/October if i know the business tactics of DVDO.
To get NR you need to upgrade probably later this year.

Re: New DVDO/Achorbay website
Has anyone downloaded their latest brochure revised January 2007
here is the vp50 specs from it
• VRS Precision Deinterlacing™ of 480i/576i/1080i
• VRS Precision Scaling of inputs up to 1080p
• PReP™
• Noise Reduction

Oh look 2 features that aren't in my VP50

Re: New DVDO/Achorbay website
"Precision Scaling of inputs up to 1080p" surely that makes 3 features missing

The VP50 will indeed handle a 1080p input, but only via HDMI.
