Post Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

Hi all,

Just wondering if any one had any experience with ORB Mod1 / Mod2 speakers
i have been looking at reviews and information about them, and they look great but i have never personally heard them.

They are only available in the US and apparently are as good if not better than Anthony Gallo Micro's any ideas???

Cheers
Jon

Re: Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

Hi Jon,

I have Mod 2's accross the front three channels and mod 1's for the rears, I have to say I am very impressed with them, they look and sound great
for music as well as home cinema. Very fast delivery as well.

Re: Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, so by the sounds of everything ive heard it would seem that you can actually belive the hype about these speakers was considering the Anthony gallos at twice the price still i stumbled across these would you recomend the mod2's for the front 3 chanels or do you personally think a setup of 1 mod2 centre and 5 mod1 satelites would be good enough for a small room setup?

Re: Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

I did alot of research before taking the plunge, I also read a few comparison between these and the Anthony Gallo's and many people thought the Orb's sounded as good if not better.

I would definatley recommend a Mod2 for the centre channel as most of the speach come from there and was told if you listen to alot of music as well then Mod2's on the other two channels also, remember you can upgrade Mod1's to Mod2's.

I hope this helps.

Re: Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

I have the Orb mod 1 package and was looking to upgrade to the 2. Doesn't really need it but in email conversation with Ethan (the owner) he reckons -

Quote:
Hi,

Glad to hear you are enjoying them. As for the sound difference, the Mod2 have quite a bit more output, so they are louder. They also have a bit of an extended frequency response. The difference is probably felt most in music with the Mod2 left and right and with movies in the Mod2 center. If you want to experiment, you can take your rear speakers and attach them to the front speakers (with speaker wire) to make a Mod2.

Ethan

Also with the £ strong it's better value. (although having just looked I believe a bit dearer this year??)

In all honesty I should have gone for the Mod 2 as it was supposed to be a 'for life' purchase. I should note that the response of Orb to emails was brilliant,so I wouldn't worry about them not turning up or something silly

However check the search as there's plenty here that have purchased..I recommend them totally I was hesitant because it was an 'unheard' purchase which in the audio industry is a big no,no but short of flying to NY they fitted my requirements exactly and I remain happy to have risked it..

Cheers

Richard

Re: Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

Mod 2 across the front 3 channels and mod 1 on the back for me. Partnered with a BK XLS200 DF. I bought them through recommendation from a guy on here and thedvdforums called Warren Alexander (DVF WOZ).

To be honest I'm very impressed, I changed from B&W 601s + CC6 (?). I really don't think they can be bettered as a compromise between cost/Waf/SQ. The service from Orb themselves is truely exemplary.

I also have the HOSS stands, which look fantastic IMO.

Re: Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

These may be worth exploring further....

I asked for a quote (to the UK) for 3xMod2's & 2xMod1's (no sub). They quoted $739 + $9 shipping (special offer on the shipping); there is also a 30-day trial period!

May be worth going the whole hog for 5 x Mod2's; you could always split the two surround Mod2's (if required) to make both surround & rear Mod1's!

Re: Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

Don't forget you'll pay import tax on that a they do declare it. I tried to get them to put "warrenty replacement tax exempt" but they wouldn't :-(

The 30 return is nice but for the Uk not really an option at the cost involved..

For the extra cost involved I would go the whole hog -esp if not needed they make great bedroom/kitchen speakers!!

Cheers

Re: Orb Mod1/Mod2 Speakers

They shipped mine as "Computer Speakers" with a low value and I didn't have to pay any Tax.

Candyman, is that you?!

I have the same setup (with the same sub).
They sound awsome - I also moved from a B&W setup (DM603) and although they don't have the warmth of the big floorstanders, I think they are a brilliant compromise.

The speakers are small so they will be quite easy to carry as a parcel -Just don't get the Sub!
