2005.2 sub came with euro-plug

Just unpacked my little kef eggs and the sub- only to find the sub has been packaged with a euro 2 pin power chord

I know next to nothing about power ratings so can anybody help? Can I pickup a compliant uk chord from maplin, or do I need to get an adapter? And are there likely to be any power issues with the sub itself?

No the power rating is all the same in europe just need a adaptor or a UK power lead and plug it in!

If you purchased it from Richer Sounds most of their kit comes from europe!

Re: 2005.2 sub came with euro-plug

I actually cut the UK plug off my sub and fitted a europlug so I could stick it in the switched europlug socket on the back of my Onkyo amp to save having to switch it on and off independently. So check the back of your amp first - many have a socket for powering other equipment, and they're not all UK style.

Because europlugs aren't very deep/bulky, you can actually get adapters like this from places like maplin that are a 3 pin housing that snaps around the 2 pin plug - looks pretty much like a normal plug and saves rewiring terminals etc.

Otherwise just cut the plug off and fit a UK one.

I would be very carefull about connecting anything as meaty as a Sub to the output on the back of your amp

Those sockets are designed for low current stuff. CD Player, DVD or BFD maybe but NOT a SUB

Best case is that the main plug to the amp would overload. Worst case is that it could start a fire.

Just cut the two pin connector off, and wire up a standard 3 pin plug, or get someone to do it for ya.

Maplin make this adapter. No cutting required.

At a guess, only a 3amp one. My SVS pulls only 2 amps so this should be fine on your PSW2010.

It's OK, it's only a cheap little sub. Max power consumption is 80W, the socket on the amp can handle 100W. I can't remember how many amps it draws but it's within the specs listed on the socket too. It hasn't blown up yet...
